Other than their love of ponytails and being EiC's of Valiant, the two have been nothing alike since, ignoring their mutual animosity.

Except NONE of Layton's or Shooter's problems with VEI (save cover design with Shooter, which seems very low on the list of his problems with them) had ANYTHING to do with old-fashioned sensibilities or whether they've had hits or what their egos are.

As opposed to Shooter's newer books that were exactly right. With the same layouts he's been churning out since a school boy. Sorry but people in glass houses, pots and kettles etc etc. Regardless of art problems or release dates Shooter definitely has some blame for the DHGK line.

good storytelling is good storytelling. If old-fashioned traditional panels are what it takes to tell the story, then that's what it takes.

As an example, I believe I've seen on here accusations that Shooter railroaded BWS into stifling grids and hamstrung a master storyteller like BWS.

OTV should do a mandatory reading of "Deathwatch 2000" like was done with Unity and the Malev War. DW2K was a direct result of the success of Unity, so it makes sense to break it down as a comparison.

Sadly, reading it will hurt . . . real bad.

Time for a postmortem retrospective on the Dark Horse Shooterverse.

I'm guessing the Classic Media dollar requirements were a much bigger factor than what DH is telling the media.

If the problem was Jim Shooter, they would just fire him and get one of the other hundred writers they've used to get the books out.

I did a search on the forum and only found a Nintendo-related ad.

There's ads in the Shooter era books for subscriptions to the Valiant Heroes books.

Did these really happen? Did anyone have one? How long did the subscriptions go? Were they there the whole time and I just never noticed the ads ...

sad day, I'm deeply disappointed.

Unfortunately as I understand things Classic Media also own/control the Defiant and Broadway characters, so it's not like Shooter can just go and get those.
