Finally starting to read...

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Finally starting to read...

Post by Knightt »

one of my complete (well just about, variant covers missing on a couple) Dead Universes.

So, I pulled out Continuity because that is what REALLY got me into DUs. I had my Valiant collection put together (common runs) and then found out (or remembered) about Defiant so I went for that, completed it and then it just struck me to collect another DU, what the heck what harm could that be ? Well... things only got spun up from there and now I collect so many DUs that I honestly forget what I do and don't have.

Long story short... I pulled out my Continuity box and am ready to sit down and read the entire universe, start to finish.

So here I am reading 'Armor'... well, right now I am thinking it is the worst book that I have read and cannot find myself looking forward to the next issue. Good LORD, Neal Adams is a terrible writer !!! I mean who in their right mind would use the phrase, "How did you like that, fruitcup ?" or "Now what are you going to do, Nerd Head ?"

WTF was Neal thinking ? But I have started it and I will finish it, I just hope that I don't need counseling after reading the last book.

I read the first four or so issues of Armor v1 and remember really enjoying it.

Knightt -

It's horrible, horrible stuff. Sometimes beautiful looking can be horrible.

Have you ever read Skateman #1 by Neal from Pacific Comics?

I couldnt agree more dude, but what really struck me as weird about Continuity was the garish way that the lovely art was laid out.

It was chaotic to a point of no return on a good hit of books.

The latter books drove me nuts.

The only Continuity title I have every issue of is Crazyman. And it is a decent read. The Prisoner inspired issues are the best ones in the short run.

I agree that they were some of the more attractive looking issues :)

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

so after a complete read through, how does it hold up?

I have a few pre-DW2K issues that seemed okay despite everything looking orange.

I've tried to read my DW2K (have every issue published) and RoM (have most if not all published) and I couldn't make heads or tails of most of it. The chapters didn't seem to matter and the art was so bizarrely laid out that it did a severe disservice to some otherwise nice rendering.

Knightt, I can't remember if you have read Crossgen yet. If not, do it soon. I like 85% of what I read. Some was really really good.

I have started reading a few here and there but am only missing the following that when I get them I will DIVE into it:

Sigil
22

Negation
19

Rob Zombie Spookshow International
4, 5, 6, 7, 9

Space Ace
1 – variant

I've read the Crossgen four issue miniseries of Ruse and Sigil (which I also just bought off Iggy) and enjoyed them VERY much.

I think that I am going to give.up on trying to collect all the Crossgen TPBs as there are just TOO MANY and I can't get them for a nice price.

I personally can't wait to get started on these but I also need to get through my John Byrne's Next Men first.... Wow LOVE THOSE BOOKS (and I havent even gotten to the NEW Next Men books).

Thanks for the CG recommendation.
