I have RAI #5 as my avatar because it's one of the most beautiful covers of the Valiant universe. It's peaceful, yet dangerous. I also love mostly black covers. They tend to stand out more, contrasting the art on the page. And they're harder to keep in good condition. Harbinger is my favorite series ...

I watched this auction for a while too. I was amazed at the final price, but if you love MM, this is THE piece to own.

The series is definately worth tracking down. Like someone said 1-10 are real easy to find. I think Alan Moore wrote 1-16 then passed off to Neil Gaiman. I love both writers work ...

Thanks for the comments Zeph. I didn't CGC any of my books when I went to the Motor City Con. I don't really have any that are high grade enough to be worth it and I frankly don't think I'll sell any time soon. I just didn't think it was worth it.

I did end up buying one CGC book when I was there ...

I already have one, but I was looking. I didn't see any Magnus 12 or Solar 10 1st printing. I didn't really search the $0.25 bins, but I figured they wouldn't be there anyways. Most of the $0.25 were filled the boom of Valiant where they made a 500,000 copies.

Here's my Con report:

It was a great day. I met Hillman for lunch and we talked Valiant for a while. I got to see his very nice silver XO ring. In regards to autographs, I met Sal Valetta (signed my XO#2), and Sean Chen (Rai &FF#9) and of course Mr. Shooter (more on him later). Sal seemed a bit ...

Why don't we plan on lunch. I should be there all day. Say 12 or 12:30? How will I recognize you? I don't really want to walk up to everyone asking who they are. :) I could give you my cell # or try and describe myself. ?!?

I'll be at Shooter's table at some point in time too, but I figured lunch ...

There's nothing in Brighton that I know of. Howell has a new shop that opened last year, but they don't have any older than a year. Not worth your time. Novi has a Comic City, but again, mostly new stuff and TPB. You might get lucky there. Ann Arbor has a few shops that are decent. I also go up to ...

Yeah...I just moved to Brighton about a year ago. I've lived near Lansing and St Joe also.

It's probably been 6 years since I've been to the Con. I saw David Prowse (Vader) and Peter Mayhew (Chewey) the last time I was there. I also got Quesda/Palmotti to sign my XO #0. Very cool.

Let me know if ...

Also noticed that Norm Breyfogle, Sean Chen, Dave Cockrum & Aaron Lopresti are listed as guests, plus a lot of others I would like to meet.

Anyone out there willing to help get a couple of comics signed?

I will be there. I live in Brighton so I'm only about 20 minutes away. I was planning on having him sign at least my Unity #0. I'm debating Harbinger and the other rarer Pre-Unity stuff. Like you said Hillman, a sketch would be very cool!

Thanks for your advice guys.

On a related note, is there a good way to determine relative value? Say a guide says a NM book is $100 and I have an 8.0 CGC book. Is it 80% of guide? What is the percentage breakdown? I know the high grades are actually multiples of guide. The age of the book and ...

The stereotype of "Once you go black, you'll never go back"?

I've never read Quantum and Woody, but does the white guy have an "alternative lifestyle"? The Victor/Victoria sign in the back and the "flame" lighting the cape on fire. He also kinda looks like a guy from Queer Eye (even though Q&W was ...

What comics do you CGC?

I have a few key silver age comics that aren't in great condition and I'm curious if I should spend the money to get them CGC'd. What is everyone's opinion on CGC? I know there were a lot of comments on CCG? (I think that's the other company).

Is it worth getting a comic with tears or even tape ...

I didn't think it was Ivar either. The blonde hair doesn't fit him. Whoever that is, he's the most interesting of the unidentified. Most of the characters to the left can be labeled Harbingers that were discovered after Harbiner 41. The chainmail on the middle guy just piqued my curiosity.

I haven ...

RAI #0 details

I reread RAI #0 tonight and noticed some details that raised some questions.

1- When XO and Turok are leaving to go dino hunting there are posters on the floor for Ken Clarkson running for Senate in '94. I don't remember the later XO that well, but did they ever bring this into XO in the 1994 year ...

Davies was Gimli. That's what I meant by he's a dwarf. I know he doesn't have dwarfism. I'm not sure where you got elf. He is a shorter guy though even taking away the camera angles and special effects from LOTR. I remember him from Indiana Jones and he was shorter than Harrison Ford

My vote is for:

Harbinger 1-7 - I could relate to these comics so well as a teenager. How it would be cool to have "powers", but use them in less flashy (Not Superman pre-crisis type) ways. No juggling planets, but removing bullets and floating cars. Who wouldn't try and get the popular girl to ...

Wouldn't John Ryes-Davies be too short for Armstrong? He was a dwarf! I always pictured Armstrong about 6'6", 350 lbs. Closer to the guy who played Hagrid on Harry Potter, but maybe a little shorter.

First Valiant and when did you give up?

I'm guessing this has been mentioned before, but I'm curious of when people started collecting Valiant and when they finally gave up. I know none of us likely bought Magnus #1 and stayed all the way through.

Personally, my first was a Harbinger #7 back issue. Unity had just finished. I was hooked ...

I made a Shadowman and Master Darque action figure years ago. I think I could still find them. I also drew a Turok cover for Wizard that I never sent in....Let me know if this gets going! I'd love to see other peoples work.
