they have to actually publish something, thus why VIP put out those ashcans. or tried to. why marvel put out Captain Marvel books for years, even when they wouldn't sell *SQUEE*.leonmallett wrote:Good point, and one I think you and I have considered in the past.jedimarley wrote:Is this all BS so the TM's don't lapse?
To maintain trademarks don't you have to actively use them? Would the partial site update count? The only viable vehicle I can see is some kind of VEI sampler one-shot incorporating pretty much everything, but I may well be wrong on all three counts.

I don't think VEI brought in the Cuneo's to work with them and then hired Warren Simons, one of Marvel's top editors, away from them simply to "maintain" the TM's. I think there are a larger goals in mind here. It would have been easy enough for them to whip something up if "TM protection" was the ultimate goal.

Yep. All they would have had to do is release an 8 page mini-comic and insert it in Diamond orders to be handed out for free. Or, maybe a 12 pager you could get for a buck. Something. Nope, I smell a real plan cooking here and I'm glad. Next year is looking a bit brighter, comics-wise.wrunow wrote:Zaphod wrote:they have to actually publish something, thus why VIP put out those ashcans. or tried to. why marvel put out Captain Marvel books for years, even when they wouldn't sell *SQUEE*.leonmallett wrote:Good point, and one I think you and I have considered in the past.jedimarley wrote:Is this all BS so the TM's don't lapse?

I've been sorta out of the loop to recent changes. Imdb lists a movie titled "Bloodshot" for 2013, but that is no guarantee (does any willing board memeber have full imdb access to gather more info BTW?).
It's still very unlikely it will be his next film tho.SHH: What about these other things? Was adapting Valiant's "Bloodshot" something you were really considering at one point.
Vaughn: I'm getting a new draft of it next week. Yeah, there are not many things. I'm so exhausted I'm going to take at least a couple months off now and then… it's very weird but if I have to make a movie, it's 'cause I see the whole thing in my head and I know it's going to be effortless in a sense of engaging my mind. That hasn't happened yet on what my next project is going to be.

I think Dinesh and Jason deserve some credit based on where this thread was a couple of years ago. You know when things looked really bad, Shooter walking, DH taking the GK characters out from under them, and a few other just tough breaks, these two guys put their heads down with a common goal of doing this and got back to work, created a professional publishing team, got some top rate investors with experience in the industry, and then stole an up and coming star from the largest and most successful comic book company today to shape their universe.
Looks pretty good now

Re: Is VEI dead or dying?
Yes there were. The way things had been stacking against them things looked like a falling house of cards. I love the team behind the company, the passion for it oozes out in every word they say. Every action and move made is calculated and meant to have a lasting effect.Blood of Heroes wrote:There sure were a lot of Doubting Thomases around here.wrunow wrote:I think Dinesh and Jason deserve some credit based on where this thread was a couple of years ago.
