Is VEI dead or dying?

Post by dellamorte »

It's been almost 11 months since the announcement for the A&A hc. With major delays and no explanations surrounding that book and not a peep since, is VEI fading away?

But that ad may or may not have been a repeat of something earlier, right?

That would be more than what they've already done, actually.

I think they are cryogenically frozen for long term survival.

They could be working out a deal to get Magnus and Solar back (or at least use them).

They could be hoping for more movie deals to get funds.

They maybe holding off until after the financial crisis is over.

But I prefer to think frozen for freshness rather then fading or dying. We live in hope.

Hopefully the next announcement is BIG :hope:
Valiant Deserves it and why not, the profit potential is huge with media like video games and movies not to mention merch and toys. All they need to do is have new books and the entire comic industry will jump all over anything they do as long as its VALIANT quality. IMHO.

True.... unless you are a Lakers fan. Then you get to enjoy 3 great runs. We just need Valiant to enter the ShaKobe era. :D

Pre-unity was Showtime and then Birthquake was Elden Campbell, Ced Celballos and Nick VanExcel...... now we just need them sign Shaq and trade Valde Divac for the rights to draft Kobe. :thumb:

My only issue with the idea that VEI are waiting for the best time, or avoiding the financial crisis, is that running the company must be costing them a lot of money. And they probably had loans to start up, leading to interest, so waiting can’t be a good thing if this is the case.

It’s a shame.

Its very strange that the last thing Dino said was that they wont be on the boards for the forseeable future.
Unless they really do have something planned.
Im always skeptical and cautious about what i believe in or follow, but they arent giving anyone anything to beleive in so maybe its not a shame.
Maybe its soon going to be someone elses turn to have a go at Valiant.

I am not trying to be a downer, but given the small print runs of the hardcovers, do you think they will even put out new books? It's just my two cents, but I think the Valiant line would have been a nice imprint for Dark Horse instead of its own separate entity.

I think although some may scoff at the idea, its a good one.
Image started out at Malibu before they finally managed to self publish.
Dynamite, DDP, Desperado and no doubt some more i have left out all did similar.
When times are bad you need to fess up not shut up.

We pretty much all agree that the Valiant fans are probably the smartest of any modern day publishers in terms of following, so its not like speaking to a bunch or immature fanboys (although the odd one will always rear their head sure), so time to talk to the people who count.
we can handle the truth, be it good news or bad.

For Dino to have had a big board presence for so long and to announce no more info was never going to go down well.
There is lots of positive support here, but i think a lot of that is simply blind devotion towards something people love so much they cannot let go, so logic is out the window when assessing the possibilities of whats around the corner.

You can also harp on all day about being busy etc etc, but i always find that when people talk of being so busy they couldnt get to the post office, printers, make the call, type the email, pay the bill, pick up the delivery, get somewhere on time, it normally means they have things that are more important to them happening.
It very rare that someone tells the truth when excusing themselves from lateness of any kind.
I say this with bags of experience and ability to swallow ones pride and admit to being in the wrong.

If this sounds all negative then you misread my point.

I want for VEI to be on the go too, but im a realist.
They say no news is good news, well we shall see.

Im still a beleiver :thumb:

I think the economy is a factor here.. why launch a title when the market is against you. Just wait for a bit and use this time wisely to prepare. WOuld it be great if right now, VEI was spending time and energy in putting together a 5 year plan of marketing storytelling and movie deals??

I dont doubt that it will happen.. and in a sense it already has with the new stories. Its not going to be the Valiant that we all adore, its going to be different, maybe some the same(we can only hope). It will probably NOT have the same chemesitry.. how could you MAKE that happen?? Lets hope they find a VERY SIMILAR chemestry that will work in 2010, or whenever...

Just in case someone in VEI reads this: Keep up the work, make us proud!

If they ever make books, I'll buy them. IF those books suck, I will stop buying them. However, until I know anything, as far as I'm concerned, a certain someone may have once again pulled the wool over everyones eyes, just like they did while at Acclaim.

Good points dude, however if the economy is a factor theres no harm in saying so or saying anything for that matter.

Also the five year plan does make the most sense from what has been said here.
The flip side of keeping quiet maybe simply to keep from outside interference.

I "hope" this is the case, but given certain people involved at the top of VEI, I feel its more empty promises like with the last days of Acclaim. Fool me once, if you catch what I'm saying...
