I finally got to read it today!
A ho-hum ending to aho-hum story. Obviously Batman is not dead that is not something that you leave so vague like they did at the end of this issue. maybe the next couple of issues will fill in the gaps but I'm looking forward to Gaiman and O'niel.
Oh and what's with the so-called "landmark" Batman stories ending on helicopters?

I share some of the sentiments voiced by others thus far (1-it doesn't seem the tie-ins were necessary, but I have not read them yet, 2-everything Morrison has written up to this point does culminate with RIP).
However, did anyone else think that Batman's personality, Zurr en Rah enabled him to use a gun on Darkseid? We know that the Black Gove was actually Darkseid, and when Batman took the pipe to the one criminal's head it appeared as if he killed him. I wonder if that was a personality shift? Especially since we see in Last Rites how Batman is being used to form an army to serve Darkseid. IMHO, it seems that Batman taking a gun to Darkseid is only just rewards for all the crap he put Batman thru.
I know most here have been anti FC, anti DC, but Last Rites fills in the hole of where Batman was during FC and it was a pretty concept. I like how Batman's captors mention, " What kind of man uses his own memories and emotions as weapons?" I thought it was pretty cool.
Overall, I like how RIP ties in with FC.
