Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

The Rai stories were intriguing. I just was never drawn to Rai as a character though. He was a tool of the story, but to me never was the focus.turborip wrote:I find this conversation fascinating in that Rai was either really well liked, or not even on the radar. For the latter folks, is it because of how the character changed between the early appearences to the eventually overhaul in the Future Force era?
My favorite Valiant characters (baring in mind I haven't read much beyond Chaos or before Unity)
1. Toyo Harada
2. Aram
3. Master Darque
4. Shakespeare (H.A.R.D Corps)
5. Archer
6. Gil
7. X-O
8. Shadowman
9. Zephyr
10. Solar

I did not much care for Rai back in the 90s. Even as I've reread it lately, the pre-unity stuff is average at best to me. I haven't read the Rai Unity issues in a very long time though.
That's a great list! That would be my list as well except remove Shakespeare and insert Magnus and throw Zephyr out and put Sting in. Harada, to me, was the best character in the Valiant universe. He was probably one of the best villains created since the early Batman villains. To me at least.Zaphod wrote: My favorite Valiant characters (baring in mind I haven't read much beyond Chaos or before Unity)

<--------- You mean this guy? A total bum!
Seriously, X-O has been my favorite since the beginning but Tohru comes in at a close second. Perhaps if Rai’s tenure had been longer it would have tipped the scales in his favor. Definitely a missed opportunity and the first character I would love to see in print again.

Yeah, his time was way too short. It's a shame we only got a handful of issues with him, but they were the gems of the run, that's for sure.

he really missed the top ten-since a and a are two characters, and then you've got the whole harbinger team in there.
i just need to say that anyone who doesn't like rai as their absolute undsiputed favorite obviously wants only dc-lite!

Did you take any pics?Rufusharley wrote:I once dressed my little brother up as Rai for Halloween back in the day. He must have been only 5 or 6 at the time. He go a kick out of it! We did the whole white makeup with a Red circle on his forehead and everything.
I doubt anyone really knew who he was meant to be though.

What is this "V2" you speak of? Doesn't sound like VALIANT to me...Zaphod wrote:You really need to pick up some V2 books, you know.slym2none wrote:jedimarley wrote:Nightcrawler?slym2none wrote:I wonder what my answer is...
