Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
I just noticed that the title of this issue changed. Isn't this originally supposed to be "Let's Kill Hitler!"?

You noticed that too, eh? I hadn't gone back to check the end of #1 (or the preview for #2 if that's where I saw it, but I thought I remembered it that way as well.erwinrafael wrote:I just noticed that the title of this issue changed. Isn't this originally supposed to be "Let's Kill Hitler!"?

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
The one thing I feel that does't sit well with me in this issue is when Ivar tells Neela that "if we miss the next arc we are stranded here".
Maybe for a while but I think that is a dangerous narrative corner to write your characters into and one that begs to be explored.
Cause I'm fairly sure the "out" is that there are more time arcs than Ivar even knows of.

The new title is actually funnier now. "Let's Not Kill Hitler!" LOLPhoenix8008 wrote:You noticed that too, eh? Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
This was a great issue, but I think this will definitely read better in TPB, making it slightly easier to keep all these theories and ideas in mind. I do love that FVL is including modern theorems and such on the possibilities of time travel in this.
I'm also glad that Gilad's previous meeting with Neela back in the Battle of Trafalgar is having some consequences, as I wondered about in the previous thread. Perhaps I've watched too much Highlander over the years, but I would think an immortal would have an above average memory at least. Though I do agree about the similar hair coloring issue, I was halfway expecting an earlier version of Ivar to walk into the room when I noticed the facial scars. They have to work on that aspect.

Absolutely fantastic book! All the genius of FVL's skill as a storyteller without the tedious and snarky humor that turned me off from his A&A run.

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
I love this book it is great, this issue was very good with the whole thing on Hitler and wether to kill him or not. This is I think, the most important point from that issue, way more than the sentient twitter feed or the appearance of Gilad as Hitler's situation in this issue mirrors Neela's and her own future.
The other interesting trend was how Ivar insisted that events could not be changed, one would almost think he is trying to condition Neela to think changing the past is utterly undoable so as she does not even try to do it...One can only wonder why he would do that

Very enjoyable. I do love FVL's writing and the art was the perfect compliment ot his ideas IMHO. Great stuff.

I think if there was a change it is for a very simple reason: Doctor Who had an episode called Let's Kill Hitler.erwinrafael wrote:The new title is actually funnier now. "Let's Not Kill Hitler!" Given that the Who influence feels as though it is all over this book (it feels like a love letter to Who at times, and I say that in a positive way), changing the title was fair I think.

The funny thing is that FVL has said that he never really watched Doctor Who, and he was actually surprised that there was such an episode.leonmallett wrote:I think if there was a change it is for a very simple reason: Doctor Who had an episode called Let's Kill Hitler.erwinrafael wrote:The new title is actually funnier now. Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
In FVL's Brain Boy, the character is able to read a woman's mind, finds out she's a Doctor Who fan, and dubs her the future Mrs. Brain Boy (or something like that). That leads me to believe that he's not on the level with not watching Doctor Who (or maybe he already had the upcoming task of pitching an Ivar series – this was before the current series was announced). It led me to tweet a suggestion that he might be up for writing an Ivar series.erwinrafael wrote:The funny thing is that FVL has said that he never really watched Doctor Who, and he was actually surprised that there was such an episode.leonmallett wrote:I think if there was a change it is for a very simple reason: Doctor Who had an episode called Let's Kill Hitler.erwinrafael wrote:The new title is actually funnier now. The whole Hitler thing is common when writing time travel. There was a Vertigo one-shot a few years ago all about time travel (called Time-Warp, IIRC) in which there is a team of time agents specifically tasked with protecting Hitler so that history doesn't get rewritten.
And the "not" is in the first issue, just in a different type face.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Yup, that's what I'll have to go with. Really wish I could avoid the $4.99 shipping, I end up padding out my haul with other books to make it more worth it.jmatt wrote:I see NM copies available at Midtown for $3.39

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
Given the recognisable tropes from Who that are reflected in Ivar, Timewalker I am a little doubtful about that assertion if FVL has made it.erwinrafael wrote:The funny thing is that FVL has said that he never really watched Doctor Who, and he was actually surprised that there was such an episode.leonmallett wrote:I think if there was a change it is for a very simple reason: Doctor Who had an episode called Let's Kill Hitler.erwinrafael wrote:The new title is actually funnier now. Could be coincidence, but this reads as a love letter to post-2005 Doctor who at times. Which is not a bad thing IMHO.

Finally got around to reading this issue. Agree with the earlier sentiments about the cringeyness of the "sentient social media platform", it's almost like a less acerbic version of something Warren Ellis would cook up for Nextwave. For some reason it didn't dawn on me in that first issue that the triple-scarred guy was Gilad, but it's cool seeing any of the Anni-Padda brothers appear in each other's books.
