Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
A lot of exposition as Ivar attempts to bring Neela up to speed on the art of time travel. While it's an enjoyable read with a cool surprise at the end, I can't say I'm sure how the overarching plot was advanced here.
Ivar is obviously trying to prevent Neela from becoming an evil overlord dictator in the far future--here's plenty of subtext for that--but I would have liked at least a better look at future Neela to see why exactly she needs to be stopped. By Ivar's own explanation, he shouldn't be able to stop her...but time travel is funny that way...

I loved this issue. This is "big-boy pants" time travel with insanely creative ideas being tossed in. A sentient twitter feed? Frickin' brilliant. The idea that the universe is built to prevent paradoxes and anomalies? Awesome. FVL is firing on all cylinders here!
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

I've gotten my wife into this comic - and she is loving it too.
This is just really smart storytelling

Well, there's a lot of setup to be accomplished when introducing time travel into the VEI universe, so I don't mind all the exposition at this point.BugsySig wrote:A lot of exposition as Ivar attempts to bring Neela up to speed on the art of time travel. And perhaps he's not trying to stop her from becoming that future self. Perhaps the future requires someone like that, and he's setting in motion that eventuality.
Or perhaps it was always meant to be and he can't stop it no matter what.
Giving Gillie the same hair style and color as Ivar is an artistic mistake though, that's gonna confuse newbies.
But I always enjoy FVL's history lessons. I'd give the issue 6.5/10.

Hey, how could Gilad of 1942 have known he already met Neela in 4001?

My feeling is that the past can be changed (or was changed at some point). We know that Ivar in his prison saw every possibility as though it happened. So I think things have been changed at certain points – creating alternate timelines..etc. I think the first time travelers probably *SQUEE* a lot of things up – good and bad. Killed Hitler. Stopped the JFK assassination. ETC ETC But through the wisdom of time – safe guards were put in place and the original timeline was restored as though time travelers never messed with the past.. Now in this “original” timeline – Time Travelling is a fun vacation in which your actions are heavily regulated so things can no longer be altered anymore.
It seems that Ivar though IS changing events / or attempting to … and that will get him in trouble with the prometheans and the powers that be..
It might end up that the "Time Lords" (for lack of a better term) - perhaps can be convinced that changing this aspect of history IS the right thing to do?
This is WHY this book is soooo good.
Its fun to speculate and contemplate
Its funny
It's smart - I apprecaiate that the 2 central characters are brilliant people
And the art was really strong again. Kind of disapointed by the fill in artist - but it wasn't too terrible of a deviation.
Overall, this is an excellent book 9/10

I think Ivar is trying to get young Neela to defeat cyborg Neela, that doesn't necessarily stop young Neela from eventually becoming cyborg NeelaBugsySig wrote:Ivar is obviously trying to prevent Neela from becoming an evil overlord dictator in the far future--here's plenty of subtext for that--but I would have liked at least a better look at future Neela to see why exactly she needs to be stopped. Some people loved/hated this issue. I freakin' loved it.
But then I did not like A&A reboot, either.
Just the writing, the art, the banter back 'n forth was just awesome!!
I literally think that this week's VEI issues (all around) was breath=taking.

There is an interview where FVL already spoiled what Ivar was trying to accomplish with Neela, and why future Neela is hunting them down. Should I share?

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #2 Discussion
Maybe because Neela's evil self operates from the end of time her timeline is mutable? Ivar said you can change your future but not your past, implying that it's a) tied to the individual's timeline and b) dependent on the starting point of that.bygranddesign wrote:BugsySig wrote:A lot of exposition as Ivar attempts to bring Neela up to speed on the art of time travel. If that's the case, then Ivar COULD kill Hitler, because he's from the dawn of human civilization. Which means he's lying about not wanting to kill him, because he knows good reasons why that had to happen, even though Hitler sucks. But Neela couldn't, because she's the product of a timeline where Hitler lived. So she could simply choose a different path than her future self and erase them from existence. Which would make the future Neela a product of the choice not having been made yet- which means that alternate future versions of every character exist until they make a decision, which culls the potential outcomes from the timeline.
Very interesting...

It was an interesting read, and I loved the 2 page spread when Clayton Henry came back after a few fill in pages.
Not sure why Ivar allows others to have better tech than him, if he can go even further into the future, and get the best tech ever available, right?
Also, sentient social media platforms? I'm sure by the year 30,000, social media will be so far a thing of the past, it'll be lost technology, much like laser disk and beta max.
Loved the reveal at the end. I was expecting Ivar again.
For people who might not know Gilad, and the Anni Padda brothers though, they might think that Gilad coming in was a bad guy entering the room, I mean, a dude with some horribly disfiguring scars, coming in dressed like a Nazi, cryptically stating that they've met before.... Might've been an editorial mis-step.

And another thing, Ivar says he never takes off his Zelig. So.... what does he really look like then? Since we always see him as how he's supposed to be seen in that era, or age, hair style, weight, etc?

I will not share the link. But it is out there.
Let me just say that all the clues have already been laid in these two issues. Basically,
1) What seems to be Neela's overriding concern about time travel?
2) What could be motivating Neela to always think of this concern about tine travel?
3) What idea about time travel is Ivar continuously drilling to Neela's head?
4) Why is Ivar drilling this idea to Neela's head?
"Because you are about to invent time travel...
...you'll accidentally create the greatest single threat to every thing--animal, mineral, vegetable, solid, liquid, has--in the history of the universe...
...not all methods of time travel are created equal. Yours is equaller than others...
...that evil is doing its best to reach its trendils backwards through time to recreate all of history in its own image.
