You just '+1'd your own comment?!
Well, I'm getting tired of saying this, but I enjoy Quantum and Woody. The only part of their comics that I haven't liked so far was Ming Doyle's art.
I don't really know why a lot of users on this forum aren't enjoying it, but we all have our own opinions so that's simply how it's going to be. The fact that Q+W is by far Valiant's most critically acclaimed line to date at the very least shows the comic's worth to the company, regardless of what a handful on this forum think of it.
I personally enjoy the ridiculous characters and plot twists, and don't see any reason why Q+W can't interact well with other characters from the universe, so Q+W in The Valiant? Go for it.

Re: Q&W in The Valiant? (I sure hope not)
My personal dislike of the VEI Q&W is James Asmus' lack of subtlety. I can't help but compare it to the Priest version, which has a lot of intelligent humor. The first and last arcs of the ongoing have their moments, but the humor is just too in your face that the characters and plot are sacrificed for the sake of the punchline.Shadowman99 wrote:You just '+1'd your own comment?!![]()

I'm in the pro Quantum & Woody camp as well. I do like the original version better, but the new version is still one of my favorites.

Pretty much it for me too, added to comparison with (VEI era) Archer and Armstrong, which has far greater depth, wit and subtlety IMHO.erwinrafael wrote:My personal dislike of the VEI Q&W is James Asmus' lack of subtlety. Q&W is great. I dont' get the hate.
I had ZERO intention of liking Q&W when it came out, but it quickly won me over and is now, by a landslide, my favourite Valiant book.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I understand how it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's a part of the Valiant universe. Put on your goat diapers and deal with it.

I haven't seen any hate of Q&W. Definitely dislike, but not hate. I view it similar to Howard the Duck. It just doesn't fit with the rest.

Re: Q&W in The Valiant? (I sure hope not)
While Q&W is at the bottom of the list for me, in terms of favorite Valiant titles, I still buy and read every issue (course I'm taking the completist approach to the VEI so...), and almost always enjoy them.
As said, there's some pretty good satirical social commentary throughout, and maybe I'm immature, maybe I'm just not overtly uptight, but I enjoy the occasional dick or fart joke.
If you're the kind of person who looks down on that type of humor, you probably take life too seriously. Lighten up.
As for how Q&W mesh with the rest of the Valiant universe, granted the subject matter can be far more over the top than the other titles, but then again so is Deadpool in the Marvel Universe, or Plastic Man in DC. I'm sure it'll work in the title, with the characters bringing their brand of humor (or Woody, really, with Eric as the comedic straight man) but not overpowering the dark and serious tone of The Valiant.
Besides, as said, I doubt they make up a large part of the story. It's probably just a cameo type appearance.

Re: Q&W in The Valiant? (I sure hope not)
I enjoy base humour as much as (meaning I enjoy it!). I think farts are funny. I enjoy satire. I just don't find the writing on Quantum and Woody by Asmus to be funny. There can be nuanced distinction and perception about those forms of humour.DIrishB wrote:While Q&W is at the bottom of the list for me, in terms of favorite Valiant titles, I still buy and read every issue (course I'm taking the completist approach to the VEI so...), and almost always enjoy them.

In addition, I just don't think the presentation of Asmus' take fits the line very well. And I think that plot and characterisation have been minimal at best over the course of Asmus' Quantum and Woody.
