I know 2 store owners who are going to order HEAVY on this book. One is one of the biggest, if the not THE biggest west coast store that sets up at cons. He is going real heavy on this book. I think he had the biggest order on WD #100 in the nation.

Yeah, there's likely money to be made, but I'm not likely to mess with it. Figment on the other hand, I bought a few copies of.

I picked up a copy, but mostly because of the name. I work on a (totally unrelated) arts festival of the same name. I've yet to read it. But it's my understanding that it's kid-friendly, so I may grab a copy for my niece and nephew.400yrs wrote:Yeah, there's likely money to be made, but I'm not likely to mess with it. I just think there's going to be some very heavy speculation. It'll be a microcosm of the '90s.GGSAE wrote:Print run of 150-300k+ plus! I originally had 3 copies of Outcast ordered through DCBS and then I dropped it entirely from my order. If the story doesn't interest me, I am not going to buy it. That is my new motto. If I miss out, I miss out.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Well with the print runs on some of these books speculated in advance, unless you're getting books at a LCS rate it's not really possible to make money. Look at East of West and all the people that were listing sets at $5/each just to unload copies. I think long-term if a book is a hit then 30-50k it might be a hit (but again this is talking after a few years of the book being published), not right out of the gate. Flipping these new books with higher print runs, timing is crucial. And there's too much luck involved in that for me...mkb28 wrote:I originally had 3 copies of Outcast ordered through DCBS and then I dropped it entirely from my order. Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Here's the thing that makes Outcast by Kirkman & Azaceta* a rather unique case; In addition to it being a new book by a popular creator, the television rights have also been sold, in a deal where there's a penalty if nothing gets made. Which means that it's very likely that we will see something air, I think. The expectation of a television show is going to be baked into those sales numbers as well, which is why I'm expecting a huge number. I imagine that at best the book will see a small appreciation in value, but that will only happen if a new show is produced and ends up being very popular. I think that's a longshot, because the average television viewer isn't going to care that the creator is the same guy that created The Walking Dead. I think it's more likely that you end up finding the first issue in discount bins down the line (certainly not right away, or even soon, as those that "invested" will hold out for a while, expecting bigger demand after the show launches), even if the comic is excellent and the show is moderately popular. I'll note that I found tons of copies of Velvet #1, which I think is one of the better new books to come out of Image recently, in the dollar bins at NY Special Edition last weekend.GGSAE wrote:Well with the print runs on some of these books speculated in advance, unless you're getting books at a LCS rate it's not really possible to make money. Here is one that sort of surprised me...Figment 1. Issue 2 has sold out and going to 2nd print. Prices on ebay already around $20. A book. I hear a lot of people asking for it. Now my question is do you think it can sustain? I thought this was a new character I had no idea he was a Disney theme park mascot in Florida. I look forward to what you guys think.

Wait, Figment the comic book is about Figment from Journey into Imagination at Epcot?! That's supremely odd.Ramses818 wrote:Here is one that sort of surprised me...Figment 1. Yep. It kind of seems like a "first" type of thing to me. Disney is taking an obscure character from the Epcot theme park and developing a back story through Marvel. What's not to like about that? But I believe it's a mini.lorddunlow wrote:Wait, Figment the comic book is about Figment from Journey into Imagination at Epcot?! It is odd to me to. Bleeding Cool was talking about this book being under ordered and Disney fans driving the price because they were unable to get it at their LCS. Just interesting.

In midtown right now. They have a few copies of figment left. If anyone wants one and can post within the next few minutes I'll try to grab one. Otherwise I'll see if they're still available tomorrow when I get my new books

Well, there were about 20-25 still there yesterday evening, and I was in before 9 this morning. It wouldn't have entirely surprised me if there were still some there, since I imagine traffic is fairly slow on a Tuesday evening, and people are mostly looking for new books on Wednesday.StarBrand wrote:I'd have been shocked if they weren't.kjjohanson wrote:When I went to pick up my new books this morning they were gone.kjjohanson wrote:In midtown right now. Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
My LCS usually has 1-2 copies of the popular Image titles and today I saw 10 copies of Outcast, bagged and boarded, and on full display. I think this book will have a large print run and I am glad I stayed away. Could be wrong, but the story concept just didn't interest me.StarBrand wrote:Outcast has hit the ground running.StarBrand wrote:Kirkman's Outcast could hit the ground running.

I'm going to petition Greg to add a filter so every time someone types outcast it becomes outcast by kirkman and azaceta. Which will be a lot if fun if someone actually types out the full name

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
There's an eBay auction of a CGC 8.5 copy of Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) that's currently at $56 with a few hours to go:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PRIMO-GUARDIANS ... 35d873fea8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was tempted to post this to the Auction Hall of Wow and Disbelief! thread in Hall of Fame, but it seems any copy of this (even unslabbed and described as VF) is getting serious action:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Collectibles-/1 ... Complete=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've got one that I estimate is a 9.4. I'm thinking I'm going to sell soon.
