kjjohanson wrote: Do we know that the print run for Preacher #1 is that high? Certainly it's higher than TWD #1, but most Vertigo books didn't reach the numbers of more mainstream books in the '90s. I've seen one person comment in a forum that the print run was closer to 28K.
Can you get a source on that 28k? I would be absolutely stunned to see that....I see still (as of a few weeks ago) many dollar finds of this book on the CGC boards. In fact, one guy alone found 5 copies sitting in a box together! You just don't see 5 copies of a #1 issues together, unless there's a fair amount of them out there.
The 28K is not my number. I just saw someone post that number without a source.

I think its closer to around 30-35k. I looked on a site and its estimated closer to this range.
Can I get a source on this? That number still seems really low (remember this was in the peak of the copper age, a few years before the bubble, so print runs for most publishers was very high), it could be right, but there seems to be quite a lot of these books out there.
Preacher 1 was dated 1995, after the crash.
http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicss ... amond.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Preacher #1 is at 75th on the sales rank.
The index is 28.2 and Comichron estimates that's 1,100 to 1,200 copies per index point for Diamond.
That's 31,000 to 33,800 for Diamond.
Diamond was probably around 75% of the market, so the total print run was probably 40,000 to 45,000 copies.

It was not a big hit for DC, though, since it sold fewer copies than Aquaman #8 and Steel #14
and slightly more copies than Lobo Bounty Hunting for Fun & Profit #15.

Vertigo books in general weren't huge sellers. They just had really good reputations because they were for a more sophisticated audience. And when trades became more prolific, I imagine that a greater proportion of readers opted for trades than monthlies than for mainstream DC or Marvel books, but that's mostly a hunch.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

This seller sold 21 Southern B's at 7.95 ea or more. That's more than Manifest Destiny 1 was selling for at the same stage, but it's difficult to know if that means this book might perform like MD 1 did over in it's second and third months due to the difference in print runs.

#2 and #13 are the other big Preacher books, besides the #1, the preview and the absolute vertigo.

I flipped a few copies for $8 each. Then sold my last copies at $5 each. I didn't have much trouble finding these at LCSs.

There is a discussion regarding this on the CGC board. I think it's determined that it's NOT the 1st appearance of Earl Tubb but it's just a prototype. So I think if you have Scalped #43, now is the time to unload before it tanks.

For me I'd rather pay $5 bucks for either of those 300 books than the last issues of VH1 which go for 3-5 times that amount. If you have a better use of $5 to invest in comics, I'm all ears. :)
Re-reading your earlier comment I see that you didn't mention them specifically because they're last issues. I haven't read them, but if they're key books for other reasons then that makes a difference.
I think the final issue of two iconic series (one being the longest running Vertigo title of all time), should hold some merit. If the last issue of X-O Manowar and Turok can sell anywhere from $10-40 (There was a time people would pay 40$ and up just for Turok), and those titles were absolute crap put out by Acclaim, then a well-delivered finale should be at a minimum comparable to that.
It's always going to come down to supply and demand.
Ya well it's been argued dozens of times in the past how much of an impact this board had on VH1 prices, especially the less common books. You could say it's manufactured demand to an extent...
Not exactly sure what that's supposed to mean. This site certainly kept interest in Valiant at a higher level than if there was no site. Not sure if I would call that manufacturing demand.
I would say definitely manufacturing demand by people here hoarding key issues (especially 9.8 candidates :!: ). I could site numerous examples.. but I like most everyone on here.. so I won't, so as to stay on their good sides. :thumb:
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Yeah, I think it's probably ordered heavily too. It's hard to say how this will go, but it's certainly selling heavily on eBay pre-sells too. I just find it interesting it's already landed at Cinemax and hasn't even been released yet.

You make a good point. He's making a tidy profit quickly, so he's probably pleased so far. Maybe this is more of a book to watch than Outcast #1? :?

I think demand is going to be high, but the supply is too. Lots of people will be speculating on this book considering the cash that Invincible and TWD pulls in. I'm guessing that the first issue will have anywhere from 20–50X the print run of TWD 1.
