I think the book has been very strong post-Perfect Day and here I think Dysart showed brilliant craft, juggling his feints, plot beats and and characters points. Even the panel with Stronghold being recalled to action was pitched perfectly, adding a sense of pathos (due in no small; part to the artists in that instance). The writing and art have worked so well on this issue that my favourite VEI book has real competition at last.
This goes into my top 5 VEI issues without doubt.

I'm not sure if this issue would be in my top 5 but definitely top 10
This arc as a whole is putting up a major challenge to my favorite VEI arc - Far, Far Away

Agreed. I'm envious of the trade waiters who will get to read Resistance and Death of a Renegade in one sitting. For me to compare this to Archer and Armstrong *(possibly my current favourite monthly that I read) is high praise.

Great issue as usual!
I will admit I am sad to see Charlene go. I think the death was done well though and kept the reader guessing. This series has really been well done and I can't wait to see what's next.

Re: Harbinger #23 Discussion - SPOILERS ARE ON (for now)
Wow. I FINALLY got to read all of May's comics last night, so I can now FINALLY read this thread and the 'bet' threads. Usually, I organize my stack to put the stuff I want to read the most on the bottom so I get to it last. I got halfway through my stack and couldn't wait any more. I pulled this issue off the bottom of the pile and dug in.
As everyone has said, a really great issue all around and I love that the death didn't happen at the end of the issue as it's climax. Happens smack dab in the middle and they have to keep going with the mission and find time to deal with it later. Also... love Faith using her companion field to defenestrate (how ofter do I get to actually use this word in context!? AWESOME!) Ion, even if it did lead to the situation of Flamingo dying. Interesting that she uses it offensively, and maybe more interesting is that she's totally willing to kill. Not that it was in cold blood though, she was defending Torque so that's more understandable.
Also so glad to see the Gen Zero kids getting freed. Looking forward to more of them next issue and into the future. Also looking forward to the final fight between Peter and Harada, because this was just the warm up.

The infinitive of defenestrate just feels a bit off. I suppose I am more used to the nominative form of defenestration.jmatt wrote:Bonus points for vocabulary.Phoenix8008 wrote:love Faith using her companion field to defenestrate (how ofter do I get to actually use this word in context!? AWESOME!)

I did not mean to say that it was incorrect, only that I have so infrequently encountered it in the infinitive that it feels strange and awkward.jmatt wrote:Chiclo wrote:The infinitive of defenestrate just feels a bit off. I hate spell check. I have to replace the whole computer before I have properly broken one in. They are woefully incomplete.ilzuccone wrote:Nice busting out a word that isn't in the dictionary on my mac
And then if I type in another language it is all a bunch of red squiggly lines.
Spell check is doing its fair share to ruin western civilization. Editing texts has fallen by the wayside and words that sound close to the correct one are overlooked because "it passed spellcheck". I am referring to common, easy to identify errors like switching affect and effect or even odd ones like have and of.

I don't think it was as much as an intent to kill, but more a gut reaction to remove Ion from the scene without concern for the consequences.Phoenix8008 wrote:Interesting that she uses it offensively, and maybe more interesting is that she's totally willing to kill. I often thought it would be a hoot if there was a superhero called the Defenestrator, whose arch enemy would have an underground lair. Turns out that someone actually worked a Defenestrator into a comic a while back. I want to say Grant Morrison in Doom Patrol but that might not be right.jmatt wrote:de·fen·es·trateChiclo wrote:The infinitive of defenestrate just feels a bit off.
