It's Warren Ellis on a weird superhero. It will be great.

Funny, I said something like that to hawkeyeps a week ago or so. It does look like that. Stylistic/arty version of a B character (MK is more Z than B, one can argue), with a street level setting? :P

I haven't read it yet- my books only arrive one month later. Still hopeful it will be a great series.
They're trying the same thing with She-Hulk. Similar to what was done with FF and Young Avengers over the past year plus. Funny enough, those are the only Marvel books that have/do hold any interest for me anymore.

She-Hulk was actually pretty good. I'm not crazy about the way She-Hulk's face is drawn, but it's staying on my pull list.

I tried to jump on Moon Knight the last time they said it was a jumping on point, it was way too confusing.

This? No problem--clear explanation of what he is, his origins (no confusing multi-personality disorder matching up to other Marvel heroes) and I really liked it.

Okay, wait. So I read Moon Knight #1, but wasn't sure what the references to Wolverine, Cap, and Spidey were all about. Did Moon Knight think he was those characters in another series?

Yes. The last series by Bendis and Alex Maleev portrayed Spector's multiple personalities manifesting as those three.

How recent was this? Was this during Brubaker's popular run on Cap? i.e. a way of getting popular Marvel characters into yet another series?

This was around 2011. I think the concept was to highlight the fact that Spector was chosen by Cap to be on an Avengers team and associate him with the team. Bendis is famous for trying to elevate his favorite b-level characters into the Marvel elite. Kind of like how he's been trying for the last decade (unsucessfully) to get anyone on Earth to give a sh!t about Luke Cage.

Must read Ellis, my personal top 10: ( I know, no Transmet, I personally think it's overrated)

Planetary
Global Frequency
Nextwave
Ministry Of Space
Authority
Desolation Jones
Fell
Iron Man Extremis
Red
Ruins (if you can ever find it)
Loved Fell. Never read any of the others

I read this and LOVED it. I haven't read anything Moon Knight since that god awful Stephen Platt stuff, so I still have a lot of questions but I assume i'll know more of what's up as the series keeps rolling.

The art is flipping fantastic. Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire are KILLING it.

I enjoyed it but only really bought it for the Katie Cook Hippo Moon Knight cover.
I prefer to read Ellis's work in trade, especially in the cases where it stopped mid-arc: Fell, Doktor Sleepless, Desolation Jones, Miranda Mercury, Newuniversal.
But I dont really hold it against him as I think all of those scripts were lost in some horrific hard drive malfunction in the mid aughts.

I have found his marvel work to be entertaining, and have some very interesting ideas. I much prefer his old wildstorm and avatar stuff that allowed him to branch out into more sci-fi and noir stories than his superhero work. I also enjoyed both of his novels, so ymmv.

I hear Moon Knight 1 sold out of its print run of 70,000. Here's some reviews.

Did you read his Iron Man run?
Yeah, it was some of his better stuff, but it just didn't click with me.
I've always felt that Warren Ellis is one of those writers if he's really, really, really passionate about a project then it's usally your going to get a great series, however if he's just doing to it for a paycheck then it will range in quality wildly from crap to average, maybe it will be good if you're lucky.

Yeah, that was a real fast one. I think the art is spectacular though, and the story, although brief, was well executed.... no pun intended (if you read the book)

I haven't read any of these other than previews, but the 'costume' just bugs the heck out of me. The all white 3 piece suit plus the 'bag over the head' mask just bugs the heck out of me. I agree that Ellis seems like a great writer for this series, but the visuals just bug me too much. Give his classic cowl/cape back!

I can see why you wouldn't like the costume. I happen to really dig it. Especially the coloring, or lack thereof. I think that's so brilliant. Makes him seem out of context with anyone else in panel. But in a good way! Can't explain it, but I love what they did with the coloring of him.

Just read #3. What is going on here? Are all these issues standalone 1-shot types? Nothing advances any plot. It's like.... ooooh, ghosts. Can't beat ghosts. then some random dead bird tells him he has "stuff" that can. He uses it, beats ghosts. The end.
Art was great though.

I had forgot about this, and apparently so did my LCS- only got issue 1, so far. Haven't read it, I'm waiting for at least 3 or 4 issues to give it a try.
Still hopeful. :|
