are you saying you've never read a Dynamite comic or you've never read a good Dynamite comic?

I think dunlow's description of their business model is pretty accurate, except they don't always license IPs, a lot of their books are unlicensed, like the public domain EBR (Tarzan, John Carter) and Project Superpowers lines. they usually have eye-catching Alex Ross covers, but the interior art and story are often subpar, IMO. the Last Phantom was pretty dreadful, but I actually liked Kings Watch #1. a characteristic of the company that annoys me, however, is that even when characters meet, there's really no concept of a shared universe; the Flash Gordon in his series is not the same Flash Gordon in Kings Watch, and same with the Phantom. Masks was a team-up of several pulp characters, but they weren't the same as in their respective books. even the Project Superpowers spin-offs don't read like there's any continuity.
I can second all of that. They also promote the hell out of a new launch only to drop any marketing after the first issue. Then the books get shipped later and later until they get cancelled all together, sometimes without even finishing the story. This happened with the Kirby: Genesis line which had a TON of promise only to be completely abandoned.

actually, you may have easily missed it, but they did finally release Dragonsbane #4 (almost a year after #3)

but you're right, I've never seen them promote a #2 issue. ever. they don't seem to maintain excitement on social networking or give ongoing previews out to the regular sites. their sales always go in a steady decline.

I'm no fan of Dynamite based solely on what I've heard of their tactics and to my knowledge I've never read one of their books.

That being said, I hope that they have the balls to try to reach out to VEI if they haven't yet and the determination to actually make good comics from these properties.

I can't see any reason why both Dynamite and VEI would not profit by Dynamite trying to work with VEI and the license holders if necessary to get VEI an affordable license to reprint old VH1 GK3. I think it would provide massive advertisement and news all over the comic industry for both companies and I think make us customers very happy, regardless of what happens with the new GK based books.

I completely agree that the VEI universe does not need the GK3, I wouldn't even want them in it short of VEI obtaining full ownership. At the same time, I can think of nothing I would love better right now than for VEI to be able to print Beautiful hardcover collections of Early Magnus, Solar and a complete Hardcover UNITY. I think that Dynamite working with VEI to do such a thing would set a precedence and send shock waves throughout the industry while also putting both companies on everyone's radar.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Yes, I'm saying I don't think I've ever read a Dynamite comic. Except maybe a free Kirby Genesis teaser book once.

I would not worry too much about this. Chances are very poor that any of these comics are going to make it into double-digit issues sitting on the shelf for purchase. In 18 months, this is going to be another Dark-Key-esque bump in the road.

I think it speaks volumes about the great work that VEI has done that we're pretty content with the GK3 NOT being part of Valiant. Before the relaunch, as Greg has pointed out, it was almost unthinkable that Valiant could relaunch and NOT have the GK characters - or at least Solar. The consensus was pretty much that, even if they did manage to launch without them, they would be crippled.

But now, the consensus is pretty much that, while it might be nice to have them included, they are completely unnecessary. And I think that speaks incredibly highly about the original characters that Valiant (Shooter, Layton, et al) created, and the phenomenal work that VEI has done with them.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

personally, I'm on the fence. as much as I would love to read a new Magnus or Solar comic book, I know it'll never be the same version as before; knowing what to expect from Dynamite, there won't be an attempt at a shared universe. sadly, I think this will just be another Dark Key, but hopefully it will have a longer life (say, 18 issues?). I think I'll buy the first issues and then wait and see.

I'll admit when I first discovered VEI at a convention, the first words out of my mouth to Dino were "where's Solar, Magnus, and Turok?" my impression was that they were just having to get by with the "second string" characters at the moment, but once I read the books I realized they didn't need the GK3. still, I can't help but think that a lot of other lapsed 90's readers might be thinking the same thing and haven't tried out any of the new books because they were waiting for the GK3 to return.

Probably a very accurate assessment.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Based on their (DE's) attempts at 'superheroes' I would say 18 issues per tittle would be very optimistic.

Then it is about good word of mouth, telling people what we think the best VEI books are and why. :)

Makes me wonder what the interest really is on the part of Dynamite. After seeing the lackluster sales with the failed Dark Horse relaunch (and that was with JS at the helm), you would think most companies would be a bit hesitant to try the same.
