Dynamite Comics is releasing new Gold Key comics....
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=48387
Have You guys seen this.Together the images show the question "What is the key?"
So what i understand is
Greg Pak On Turok
Fred Van Lente on Magnus
Frank Barbiere on Solar
Mark Waid on Doctor Spektor.
I could be wrong but i believe this what is happening.I just hope this is in a shared universe and for god's sake please don't let Magnus be wearing a skirt.
Plus as you can see two Valiant writers are also present there..I believe Valiant Entertaintment made the right call in not licensing these characters.I think they will work better in their own universe with grown men wearing skirts and attacking robots with dongs..
It starts with a crossover "Dong Nation"
sorry,had to say it.....

Re: Dynamite Comics is releasing new Gold Key comics....
I would say that's a good translation of the teasers. Good luck to them, but I won't buy the books. I am thoroughly unimpressed with the recent shared universe attempts by Dynamite or, more specifically, their mishandling of them.
This does, however, present the opportunity for an eventual crossover. VEI has worked with DF on merchandise already, and they obviously knew who had purchased the license, so there is a relationship there. That I might buy.

Not (yet) confirmed, but it looks like it fits (especially when you start looking at the textures on the slides - the scales on the green Pak slide for example).sonicdan wrote:WTF!?

I'll be keeping an interested eye on these, if true, but I doubt I'd purchase. As much as I love these characters from days of Valiant past, it's not the same if they ain't playing in the VEI sandbox.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

So VIP ended up with gold key huh. Talk about hanging on for dear life to valiant. At least we'll probably see a crossover, I guess.

I'm not interested at all. Magnus, maybe. My favorite of the GK3 was Solar. However, the VH1 character was not the Gold Key Solar at all. I like Phil Seleski Solar. I do wish they'd bring that character back and just change his image. I liked the VH1 character - the Gold Key character is okay, but he's not nearly as awesome.

Re: Dynamite Comics is releasing new Gold Key comics....
Definitely an interesting line-up. I'm one of the people who liked Shooter's work on the Gold Key characters with Dark Horse (Although Turok had horrid art in the last two issues).
I might check some of these books out, depending on the artist chosen for each title. More than likely, though, I'll trade-wait.
What type of writer is Barbiere? I've never read any of his work.

I'm really only interested in these characters if Shooter is writing them, or if they are part of the Valiant Universe. And I'm fine with them not being part of the VEI Universe.

He is very very good .His book Five Ghosts is particularly good. His career seems to have explodes in the last month. His stories are sort of counter cultury and sort of reminds me of early Grant Morrison.I think he is someone to watch-out for....Savant wrote:

Well this is interesting. Truth be told, I'll probably check them out, but I don't know that this is going to last.
I'm fine with VEI not using them, because they're doing well with the fully licensed characters, but why is it that these characters are being passed around with all these publishers but VEI can't get in on it? I also find it really hard to believe that they got two Valiant writers on this.

Since the Valiant relaunch in 2012 there hasn't been a reason for VEI to go for these characters.etos45 wrote:why is it that these characters are being passed around with all these publishers but VEI can't get in on it? They'd be licensed, not owned, so that would be an expense.
My guess is that whoever has these characters (Classic Media, Dark Horse, Dynamite) would need to make the case to VEI why VEI should get involved.
Otherwise, what's in it for VEI?

Re: Dynamite Comics is releasing new Gold Key comics....
I find it interesting that Dynamite has two of Valiant's current creators on it's former Valiant-related Gold Key books.
Also, we do not need this. Nope. Nope. Nope. Unless this is being done with the approval/support of Valiant, I'm going to act like a rabid 90s Q&W fan and start complaining about *SQUEE*-bag Dynamite.

I don't think VEI licenses any characters currently. They outright own all the characters they are using.etos45 wrote:I'm fine with VEI not using them, because they're doing well with the fully licensed characters, but why is it that these characters are being passed around with all these publishers but VEI can't get in on it?

I know there are still some (many?) who want the GK 3 within the new VALIANT, but the question I would ask is what value would they add?
I think you are correct to highlight the expense Greg. But not only that, while VEI can exploit the properties they own (merchandise, movies) to add revenue, things would be different in relation to licensed properties.
Finally, from a story telling perspective, what would they offer? The well of existing characters is not yet exhausted, and that is not to exclude whole-cloth new creations as an eventual possibility (not something I think VEI need rush into; they have plenty of strands of existing properties to work through first IMHO).

You're correct. VEI doesn't pay anything for their characters... they own them all.The Beyonder wrote:I don't think VEI licenses any characters currently. Re: Dynamite Comics is releasing new Gold Key comics....
This feels like a chess game in which VEI is now losing
Dynamite signs two big valiant writers to write for the GK3 characters which gives it a sense of legitimacy that this is somehow what VEI wants to happen...
I'd rather see Dynamite fail miserably with these characters ... and for VEI to eventually buy the characters back and bring them into the universe properly ... and not through some superficial crossover

Before Valiant returned, I couldn't really imagine a "Valiant Universe" without Solar.
Without Turok... sure.
Without Magnus... yeah, ok... that might work.
But I thought it NEEDED Solar.
Now that we're IN the new Valiant Universe... I don't see the need for Solar.
There are multiple aspects of the new Valiant Universe that make Solar unnecessary.
Solar was outside of time... the Faraway and time-arcs are handling the past/present/future.
Solar was infinite... Obadiah Archer has some mysterious "infinity" quality that Kay McHenry saw.
Solar could manipulate matter at the atomic level... Kay McHenry re-wrote the operating system of the universe.
Solar was all-powerful... so far, no one can stop the X-O Manowar armor.
What would Solar be doing in the new Valiant Universe?
