I was thinking about this ... Perhaps instead of the team turning on Harada, Harada turns Unity against the next big threat facing earth....BugsySig wrote:
Perhaps the next Unity arc sees the team go up against Harada and it crosses over with Harby. Then the third arc they team up with Shadowman against Darque, and so on. It would take some advanced planning and hard work by editorial, but it would be a cool new twist on the "crossover" and perhaps draw fans of one book to others based on what they see.
Peter "the great destroyer" Stancheck and his reckless band of renegades.

The next arc...
The Renegades vs. Team Unity
now. that. would. be. awesome.

I like the X-O cover better ... but this one has more of a iconic 1st issue feel to it with all the characters looking very heroic

Unity and the lost land got me thinking. The team against X-O probably couldn't take him down from making a new Dacia and since the ex slaves will need a place to stay maybe Archer & Armstrong,Ivar(if he's introduced) or Eternal Warrior will convince them to take the Faraway as there new home. They have to stay somewhere and the slaves are out of time anyways would work out perfect for everyone.
If I just can't be me ,and the Arrow isn't enough.. then maybe I should be Ra's al Ghul

Does it strike anyone as odd though, that compared to the other piece of art where it seems to distinctly be 'XO vs Unity', on the above cover, it looks as though XO is teamed *with* Unity??
It's probably got no significant meaning and is just meant to be a cool cover, but I just thought that it's a bit of an odd composition since we now know for a fact that for at least the first arc it's definitely XO vs. Unity.

+1. VEI has exactly one chance to prove that they are not just cashing in on the title of Unity. Dino promised something that has never been done in comics before, and I have no reason not to trust him. However, if this is just the tired team-book concept trying to capitalize on Unity, then I'll have lost some respect for VEI.tchalla8 wrote:I'm right there with you....love everything about it except their choice to use that title.Heath wrote:I love the idea of a team book, but am I the only one that thinks the title "Unit" and the legacy of that title, as associated with Valiant, is just wrong?

I'm not a fan of the title choice either, but I'm sure it's doing what it's supposed to do and that is bring attention to the series. The biggest thing for Valiant appears to be getting people to read the books. Once they do the quality keeps them coming back.tchalla8 wrote:I'm right there with you....love everything about it except their choice to use that title.Heath wrote:I love the idea of a team book, but am I the only one that thinks the title "Unit" and the legacy of that title, as associated with Valiant, is just wrong?

Re: Unity .... what does it MEAN?!!
I don't really have a problem with Valiant's choice to use 'Unity' as the title for this series.
So far with every comic they've published they've used old titles and majorly overhauled the actual content within, and I daresay that we'd all agree that they've done a good job of it to date.
Essentially, they're doing exactly the same thing with Unity, so I see no reason why they can't publish it in a different way whilst improving on the previous version.

Re: Unity .... what does it MEAN?!!
No, I'm sorry, but Unity is completely different. "Archer & Armstrong" is about the characters Archer and Armstrong. "Harbinger" is about the characters Peter, Kris, Faith, Torque, Toyo Harada, etc. "Bloodshot" is about the character Bloodshot. "Shadowman" is about the character Jack Boniface, aka Shadowman. "X-O Manowar" is about the Visigoth Aric and his sentient armor. The titles refer to the characters, all same as before regardless of the changes to those characters.Shadowman99 wrote:I don't really have a problem with Valiant's choice to use 'Unity' as the title for this series.

Unity was a a crossover event, the title referring to Mothergod's attempt to wipe the time stream and clean up the mess Solar made. It didn't refer to a team or any group of characters. And, I'd also say that it holds a very special place in the hearts of Valiant fans for many and various reasons. All the other titles so far have been true to their legacy. This one seems more like something that would be done by Acclaim.
Although, "Secret Weapons" would not have gotten the same attention.

Re: Unity .... what does it MEAN?!!
The thing I'm starting to like about the idea of using the title this way is that it makes sense as a name that Harada would come up with for the purpose at hand. It's a grandiose, sweeping conceptual word that both strokes his own ego & simultaneously might help make people feel like they are working with an incredibly good philanthropist who has the worlds best interests at heart. And meanwhile he will just be manipulating them all to achieve his goals, which is to eliminate a true threat to his own power in the world.Heath wrote:No, I'm sorry, but Unity is completely different. I'm perfectly fine with them re-purposing a title. in fact I'd prefer that to them just trying to re-tell Unity without Solar. no matter what, they're never going to capture the same lightning-in-a-bottle that was the original Unity, but if they're using the brand name then I just hope they find a way to harness some of that nolstalgia while delivering a new concept. for instance, I'd love to see Erica Pierce introduced in this book.

Re: Unity .... what does it MEAN?!!
I get what you're saying, but I still disagree I'm afraid. You're right about the repurposing of character specific book titles in accordance to the characters featured within and its applicability, but the reason for my disagreement is that the way I see the original Unity was that it was a bringing together of a cast of Valiant characters from across the universe into a cohesive plot: Which is exactly what the new Unity is going to be. Because the plot and method of publication is different from the original Unity that doesn't actually mean that it subverts what Unity is in this respect, it just means that Valiant are doing the same thing but simply putting it on the shelves in a different way.tchalla8 wrote:I guess the bottom line is...from a creative standpoint the use of that title is somewhat lacking but from a marketing standpoint it makes total sense...grendeljd wrote:The thing I'm starting to like about the idea of using the title this way is that it makes sense as a name that Harada would come up with for the purpose at hand. But I agree with Grendeldj in that 'Unity' seems to fit what we've been told of the title thematically, so even though there are most likely going to be more than a few people who dislike the new usage of the title due to nostalgia, I think it's a fitting title. But as tchalla8 says, I think the title also makes a lot of sense in terms of marketing the product as well.
Anyway, nobody has to agree with me on any of the above points, but above all else I'm glad to see that the upcoming Unity is going to be something new, and not just a rehash of what happened in the 90's (or at the turn of the millennium!

I understand what you're saying and agree somewhat. However, that being said, trying to recapture the magic of the original Unity with a similar universe-wide crossover would only end in complaints that it wasn't as good or was a rehash of the original idea, etc.lorddunlow wrote: VEI has exactly one chance to prove that they are not just cashing in on the title of Unity. VEI has this IP, and they want to put it to work. So while the idea of a rotating team book may be "tired" to us jaded fans, what else could they do with it? I'm willing to live with it. We'll get all that same Unity goodness out of the company, but it will just come in different forms as we're seeing with the events of AA, etc.

As someone new to Valiant since the re-launch, I think this concept is great. It brings together interesting characters from mutiple books. Personally, Unity #1 cant come quick enough!
