Yea, I just don't see how this is supposed to be an ongoing title..I mean how many issues can you do of stopping Aric from taking over that country? Just the way this title is being marketed is confusing and unappealing to me. Unity was such an exciting, special event. This does not feel that way at all. I'm sure there's gotta be some sort of long-game plan but as of now that has not been addressed in any of these promo's.xoharbinger wrote:I don't know how I feel about this....

I keep beating this dead horse, but I've really had the wind let out of my sails with the current press releases. I'm still holding out hope that VEI will pull out something awesome like they have so far, but I don't see how this is going to live up to the hype. After Dino said "it's going to be unlike anything done before" (or something along those lines), I was expected my mind to be blown. So far it seems like Secret Weapons, instead of Unity.

so we have seen Braithwaite and JG Jones covers which are nice ... But I can't wait to see these other covers! And the comic will have variant covers to order from Bryan Hitch, JG Jones, Travel Foreman, Paolo Rivera and Clayton Crain!
I'm a big Daredevil fan so i'm excited about Paolo Rivera cover
And Crain's covers are always mind blowingly awesome ... I mean if its anywhere close to that XO Unity Cover its going to blow my socks off

Looks like this first arc will only tie into XO Manowar .... the 2nd arc will most likely tie into a different title with a new major threat. As some of us have speculated (me, bugsy etc..) maybe it will be a title that connects books in an ongoing way. The thing that worries me is this super team concept ... but that might be an evolving cast also. If the next storyline is something in the realm of Magic ... maybe the team will consist of Eternal Warrior, Livewire, Shadowman, Dr. Mirage and Baron Samedi. Maybe the next one after that will be about the Far Away and involve Ivar and A&A... etc. It would be cool (to me) if this was where they were going with this ... i'm sure at this point they don't want to reveal too much and they just want to emphasis the 1st arc and this "super team" concept.MoonChild wrote:Yea, I just don't see how this is supposed to be an ongoing title..I mean how many issues can you do of stopping Aric from taking over that country? Problem with that way of promotion is, it's being sold as this supergroup thing against X-O and its ongoing...no mention at all of it being the title that will be the tie-into-everything type situation where the line-up changes from arc to arc.

Unity as a team book makes sense and I'm always willing to keep an open mind....it'll be interesting to see how this fares as an ongoing.
One thing you have to give Dino and the gang, the energy and excitement level remains high and continues to build IMO.
Looking forward to the day I can read X-O 69, Harbinger 42, Bloodshot 52, Eternal Warrior 51, Archer & Armstrong 27, Shadowman 44, Quantum & Woody 22 (or should that be 33?).....

Re: Unity will be written by Matt Kindt!! Art by Braithwaite
I can't see that many people thinking the entire ongoing series will revolve around fighting XO. It's been said Aric is the impetus for Harada to form the team. Where it goes from there is completely open, just as with any super team assembling for a big threat and moving on from there. As soon as it was stated Unity is an ongoing team book, it seemed clear to me the next arc would involve another threat, possibly with a new line up.MoonChild wrote:Problem with that way of promotion is, it's being sold as this supergroup thing against X-O and its ongoing...no mention at all of it being the title that will be the tie-into-everything type situation where the line-up changes from arc to arc.bygranddesign wrote:Looks like this first arc will only tie into XO Manowar .... the 2nd arc will most likely tie into a different title with a new major threat. The concept BGD and I were discussing in the other thread was that the first arc would tie into XO, then the next arc could see the team turn on Harada and tie in with Harbinger. Then the next could tie into Shadowman to take on Darque. You just have a few characters remain steady to help tie everything together like Ninjak and Livewire. That would be a unique concept that hasn't been done before, and would help promote sales by introducing readers to new characters and titles through smaller "crossovers". Especially if each arc is more or less self contained.

Sounds a lot like Marvel's Illuminati actually.Big Red wrote:This doesn't sound cheesy to me:bygranddesign wrote:I'm apprehensive about it being a team book
Just seems cheesy to me that Harada, Livewire, Ninjak and Eternal Warrior would form a super group
"UNITY is a super team that has no time for nobility and is held together by deception and necessity and, even then, only barely," said Shamdasani. "This is a team that isn't happy to be together. They don't trust each other, they have their own agendas and some outright hate the others. There's a lot of story to mine in those relationships, especially as the one commonality is that they're all experienced killers."
As such, I'm unsure over this........

Re: Unity will be written by Matt Kindt!! Art by Braithwaite
From what I know about this, Unity will be awesome. That art I've seen is epic.
For me, (my personal opinion) VEI has been amazing with about all (somewhere above most but not all) they have done. This Unity is going to be different in some areas from the VH1 Unity, and I'm glad.
Also, just because Toyo is on the covers with EW, Ninjak, and Livewire does not mean they are a TEAM or will always be a team, it's not like they have matching uniforms. There have been times in my life where I have been working with someone on a certain task and then later not working with them.
What is the MOST interesting thing about this entire concept is the interactions and relationships between the characters (it's the reason I like Livewire so much). WHY would Ninjak work for/with Toyo? What about Gilly? Wasn't Livewire sorta banished by Toyo? Now they are together? Didn't she sorta go against him and free Pete? Now they are together? He is trusting her in the huge task.
I thought Ninjak and Aric sorta had a sorta relationship of working together...... now he is against him?
WHY...... WHY would Toyo go outside his group that he controls to work with some other dudes to deal with Aric?
Toyo does not seem like the type of dude that is like, "oh no, there is something that needs to be taken care of...... let me go and get some other dudes to take care of it". Why?
These are the things I'm excited to see unfold.
Personally, I never wanted to see a re-telling of old VH1 stories. I want new stories and new new new with these familiar characters.
I'm stoked. We are going to see some serious battle! It's not like Aric is going to back down from a fight or react well to being told what to do.

+1, I am really looking forward to this title. I came into Valiant from the relaunch with Bloodshot and have since expanded my pull to include almost every title (it generally goes by arc to arc). Unity sounds like a great concept and I love seeing the diverse members teaming up against XO. Again, I've got nothing to compare against having not read the original Unity event but as a new fan this sounds fantastic (from what I've read so far re: creator interviews and this board discussion).

To be completely honest, I'm happy they're not just going to re-do Unity as Unity. I'm enjoying the way the Lost Land/Faraway is being built slowly in A&A.

Re: Unity will be written by Matt Kindt!! Art by Braithwaite
Really? It sounds kinda like a lil bit of New/Secret Avengers, which are the two best Avengers books being produced by Marvel at the moment, so I for one am absolutely thrilled about reading this new title. If anything, I'm having a hard time waiting for November, honestly...xoharbinger wrote:No offense but that does not sound appealing... That's sounds like *SQUEE* more like itBugsySig wrote:I can't see that many people thinking the entire ongoing series will revolve around fighting XO. Just the way this title is being marketed is confusing and unappealing to me. Unity was such an exciting, special event. This does not feel that way at all. I'm sure there's gotta be some sort of long-game plan but as of now that has not been addressed in any of these promo's.xoharbinger wrote:I don't know how I feel about this....

Upon further consideration, I think I'm interested in seeing this title.
Some good points brought up about Harada's motivations, why would he go outside his own Foundation for help in dealing with Aric, how Livewire fits in with Harada now, does she still work for him or not, how does Harada get Gilad's help, is it due to Gilad wanting to help his old friend Aric or does Harada manipulate/lie to Gilad in order to gain his help?
I initially found it odd that VEI would want to do a superhero team book, from what I've read so far of the VEI Universe, such a concept didn't seem necessary but they've done very well so far so I'm interested now in seeing how they handle a traditional comic trope like a superhero team.

If this indeed interior art from Unity in this IGN article, I take back what I said about not being enthusiastic for Braithwaite's art. Maybe it's the coloring on the covers he's done before but it always felt kind of flat. Or muted. But Reber's colors on those pages really make it pop!
