but i'm apprehensive about it being a team book

Just seems cheesy to me that Harada, Livewire, Ninjak and Eternal Warrior would form a super group

Why use the title Unity for this team book? Why not use Secret Weapons?
And why is Harada teaming up with anybody when he has a foundation of powerful Psiot's at his disposal + recently captured super powerful kid Psiot's?

I'm excited ... but also a little worried at the same time ..lol

I liked my idea of an anthology series that would connect books through mini crossovers in an ongoing way + put a one shot spotlight on important characters in the universe who don't have their own books yet

I agree with you on all accounts and like your idea. I was worried about Q&W but that turned out better than expected. I also think Matt Kindt is a great writer and I am confidant in his hands it will not come off cheesy. Did you read the one comment on the article? I agree with the guy to a degree. I'm not getting the same feeling with these books that I had with Shooter's Valiant. Back then it felt really original. That might just have to do with my age. Don't get me wrong I'm really enjoying these stories a lot and think VEI is doing a really solid job.

I hope the cover turns about a bit more iconic than this one. I know there's a high bar with the first series, but this looks like it could be better.

I am a huge Matt Kindt fan. Really, I've met the guy, I've bought his weird stuff listed on his website. I've read all his graphic novels (except the latest, which I'm waiting for a rainy day). However, I'm not convinced he's the architect for this series. Maybe, but I'm not convinced.

I don't think this lineup will be stable, but fluid, and I would guess Harada may end up as much a villain in the series as XO. So don't judge the lineup just yet. Also, would you rather have something different, or just another Justice League/Avengers knock-off?

I like pretty much everything about the concept except using the title Unity. I may change my mind later, but I wish they had saved that moniker for something else down the road.

I have to say I can certainly see the potential in this series but I was really looking forward to seeing Mother God. I know Mary Maria is a strong female (but let's be honest she isn't a villain). I have to say I am looking forward to Valiant's first new character..the BIG one. But hey let's make it after RAI please lol..

I think they picked the right guy in Matt Kindt who is a fan of valiant and definitely understands these characters.

I'm not sure why they continue to say that Valiant has never done a superhero team book (hello secret weapons?) ... but i'm excited to read an ongoing series by Matt Kindt within the valiant universe.

Does Braithwaite use an inker or does it go straight to coloring? I'm not a huge fan of his covers but am curious to see what he does with sequential art. I'm stoked for the book in general so I'd be picking it up no matter who drew it.

Very excited about this idea. I'm disappointed to not be seeing Mothergod returning.. (or her signature outfit..)

But I am very excited about the premise for this. As much as I love Unity.. I think I approve of it's use here because Dinesh is drawing a hard line and saying this is us, we are doing it new, we are going to blow your mind by doing what is awesome while being as faithful as possible to what made these characters and not necessarily what is nostalgic.

As much as I wanted the old Valiant(a good bit before Ack-Lame!) to return and continue.. I think this is exactly what most of us really wanted... and that is New Stories in a Valiant Universe.

I also wonder why VEI used Unity instead of Secret Weapons. They already had the IP. My guess is that it is marketing, and as such makes it the first move of VEI that seems a little too much like the Big 2 approach of abusing their fans. They know everyone who loved VH1, loved Unity. They know we would eat it up when it came around. This doesn't sound like Unity. It sounds like Secret Weapons, like almost exactly, in premise. I figure they didn't use Secret Weapons because they no it wasn't the best VH1 series.

I can't blame them, as a company that has to turn as much of a profit as possible, but it seems like a bait and switch. Again, this is all based on speculation mostly, but if it is "just a team book" and not "something no other company has done before" as it was hyped, then I will be truly disappointed.

Here's to hoping VEI proves me wrong.

Not really nanabooboo, we all know GK books are comming back, just not at VEI (Per Dino). It's just one thing I would have saved UNITY for. Another would be Erica Pierce another would be RAI!

This doesn't sound cheesy to me:

"UNITY is a super team that has no time for nobility and is held together by deception and necessity and, even then, only barely," said Shamdasani. "This is a team that isn't happy to be together. They don't trust each other, they have their own agendas and some outright hate the others. There's a lot of story to mine in those relationships, especially as the one commonality is that they're all experienced killers."
