SOLAR, DARK HORSE, SHOOTER: WHAT IS HAPPENING?
I'm new to this site, but not to Valiant, having been there virtually from the beginning of VH1, so I hope you'll forgive me if this query has already been addressed here already... I'm delighted with the new Valiant (VH3?). I was far less delighted with the Dark Horse Comics (DHC) revival of Solar, Magnus, and Turok (although Turok was pretty good). But I miss having Solar around in the new Valiant. I believe that Valiant Entertainment had been in negotiations for the licence, but that things went wrong, that Jim Shooter had been involved, that he was subsequently sued by Valiant for alleged nefarious dealings, and that... Well, that is where things get somewhat hazy. What happened? Now that DHC has cancelled the Solar/Magnus/Turok titles, has it lost the licence? Are these characters up for grabs again? Is VE still attempting to get them? And what is the story with the lawsuit? Trouble has always followed Jim Shooter around like a slavering red-eyed hound; there are usually accusations and counter-accusations, noise, recriminations and blame, but now all seems very quiet. I'd really like to know what is happening. Can anyone help? Again, I apologise if this has already been addressed here, but I just don't have the time to trawl thousands of posts -- I have Harbinger Wars to read... And in case you're wondering: I have always held Solar to be the unwitting creator of all the Valiant universes, ever since the Solar #0 inserts way back when... I'd love to have him back, even if it's only in a one-shot. Thanks for listening, folks.

Well, you can "never say never", but not in the foreseeable future anyway. I think Valiant is doing just fine without them personally.MoonChild wrote:Ever?!Elveen wrote:The gold key 3 will not be a part of Valiant.

Re: SOLAR, DARK HORSE, SHOOTER: WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Thanks, guys. So DHC still has the licence. >Sigh< Well, never say never indeed. To wrunow: Yes, I agree. VE is certainly doing fine without Solar, Turok, and Magnus. I love this reboot! But, dammit, I miss the misguided presence out there of the (early) Solar. I have no idea what VE would do with Magnus or Turok if they got them. Magnus might be necessary for the reintroduction of the Rai we once knew, but as this is a reboot Rai can be tweaked into something new. On his own, Magnus doesn't seem to have anywhere to go. I didn't care for the Acclaim version. The DHC comic, true enough to the Gold Key version, seemed little more than a rehash and a boring one at that. Turok was good, but if (which might be possible, as someone mentioned elsewhere) Joshua Fireseed returns to Valiant, what does one do with him? For that matter, does VE own the Lost Land, or is that a Gold Key property?
And please -- anyone out there know what happened in the Shooter lawsuit? Or is that subject a no-no here?

I don't have anything to really add here except to say welcome! And pretty much NO subject is a no-no here, threads are derailed more often than they are... railed

I don't know who technically owns the Lost Land. If that's what it was called in the Gold Key comics, I would assume it's tied to Solar, Magnus and Turok. However, that would be an easy work around. VEI would just need to call it something different, no?

From the previews for Archer & Armstrong #0, it certainly looks like Gilgamesh could be a Lost Lands of sorts. Or could the Faraway be a Lost Lands type place?

Good point. It was called Lost Valley in the Gold Key comics. The Dirt Gang wrote:I don't know who technically owns the Lost Land. If that's what it was called in the Gold Key comics, I would assume it's tied to Solar, Magnus and Turok.
