Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
DCBS probably between $80-$150.. depending on demand.
Can't blame the LCS for not ordering 125 units of VEI books. Some stores I have visited in So Cal order as low as 3 copies per title. Some haven't even sold a single copy of A&A. The print run of these will not be very limited even at 1:125..... Advance Pre-Order through IC should cost around $87.50 + Shipping.
Or wait a few months after the demand settles on eBay... Looking at A&A #1 Golds ending around $65 now.
X-O Gold VF/NM- ended at $28

Yeah that sounds about right. I'm going to wait until the prices cool down. There is no way my LCS is going to order 125 valiants.drmirage wrote:DCBS probably between $80-$150.. depending on demand.

Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
Ya, all the variants start out high outta the gate...I think there's a honeymoon phase of a few months, then the price usually bottoms. Aside from flukes and bargain bin buys from uneducated sellers, I wouldn't hold off more than a few months for the price to go lower. I'm gonna wait for this book, but I'm already guessing this variant will be one of the most coveted from VEI. I'll keep my eye on it closely, and see where I can grab a copy.nutflush76 wrote:Yeah that sounds about right. I'm going to wait until the prices cool down. Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
Me too. I wonder who buys all of these books at the high prices? I would think they would figure out after a while that they could wait a while to get the book at a lower price. Maybe they just have more money and a lot more impatient than I am.GGSAE wrote:Ya, all the variants start out high outta the gate...I think there's a honeymoon phase of a few months, then the price usually bottoms. Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
With all the hype about this cover, I believe making it a 1:125 (Or whatever hard to get ratio they've established) is really poor planning on Valiant's part. They were even advertising it in the latest Valiant Voice e-mail. To know that people are going to see that and go to their shops asking for it to hear "We didn't get one." or "Sorry but it's $85+." is a pretty poor return for the marketing and may bite them in the end.

Werd.
It's not going to bite them, but it's definitely, 100% an opportunity missed.
Yes, they are generating the talk on comic book websites about the cover. Even on sites that normally pay no attention to these Valiant books. That's great. But imagine how many MORE people could be talking about it if they actually see it. Not many people visit comic book websites. Not getting it in front of potential buyers isn't a super idea.

I agree, it should be the regular or pull box cover. You never know though, maybe we will see the same mistake that we saw with the Zircher cover happen again and all kinds of people who don't know about Valiant will get to see it on the shelves.400yrs wrote:teedot42 wrote:With all the hype about this cover, I believe making it a 1:125 (Or whatever hard to get ratio they've established) is really poor planning on Valiant's part. Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
If that's the case, it would be the same affect of being an exclusive variant because we'll all be hoarding every copy! The shelf life will be very limited! If it turns out to be a rare line-wide variant I could see it being one of the most sought after of all the variant covers out there!Man Of The Atom wrote:400yrs wrote:teedot42 wrote:With all the hype about this cover, I believe making it a 1:125 (Or whatever hard to get ratio they've established) is really poor planning on Valiant's part. Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
VEI has never printed a book less than 1000 copies.
This being a 1:125 line wide variant on 5 titles. Estimated earned copies is no more than 700-800 copies.
Prices will be $50-$60 for this book after a month or so.... (My guess)

The prices can always be had cheaper (aside from the one seller selling a book with a BIN real low) on the variants if you wait a few months. I've been a bit more picky about my books, seeing what kind of deals I can score!

Yeah, I can't believe DCBS. They offer great deals on the Bloodshot HC and Valiant Bundles for 50% off.
But the prices on variants ate way too high.
Impulse Creations will sell these at $87.50 if you pre-order them.

Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
LOL. $87.50 is so much better for a brand new single 32 page comic than $250 ...drmirage wrote:Yeah, I can't believe DCBS. They offer great deals on the Bloodshot HC and Valiant Bundles for 50% off.

I can now understand why the comic publishers don't have to worry about raising cover prices. Just limit the production and slap a $50 or more price tag on them. Someone will STILL buy them. Who cares if your audience is only a few thousand "readers".

Come on Valiant, we want to support....but at $250 for a variant cover (great cover btw) is abit much even for the supporters. How will this bring more people to reading the titles?

Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
Yes. Valiant does not set prices. Retailers do. If someone wants to pay $250 for this ballpoint variant IMO its high but someone will buy it. Remember that the only way to qualify to get this book is to order 125 Valiant titles.
So if you add all that up. It's $3.99 x 125 = $500 from the LCS retail.
I think Mail Order comics would be a better way to go. 125 x 2.79 = $348.75. You will also get 6 copies of the 1:20s and 125 copies of the Regular/Pullbox copies plus the ballpoint variant.
The cost price for stores to order 125 copies is $250. I think if Paradise were to do this. Maybe the package will be a little less than DCBS.
The XO Gold Paraide package was $225. Ed sold all 20 packages. (Gold + 1:50 + 1:20 + Reg + Pullbox + signed print).
Will Ed be doing a package? Maybe not. I doubt it.

I dont think Ed lost $ on the packages. The packages were all pre-paid. He had the cost of the books covered.

Oh yeah I agree with that completely. He definitely didnt lose money directly, just meant to say that since he has to pay employees to manage the process its very possible (maybe even likely) he was losing money on it overall. If he had to get people to come in specifically just to do the packages I am sure he was losing money...drmirage wrote:I dont think Ed lost $ on the packages. The packages were all pre-paid. Either way though he said he A&A #5 will be his last package deal (although I think he is going to continue to do the print series). I am sure he will see this and speak for himself at some point though.

Ed's been in business for over 10+ years. He's a smart businessman.
If he had to get 2 to 3 additional people to pack and ship an extra 20-40 packages per month, he would have still made $$$ not to mention a lot of extra books.

Re: Harbinger 8 Ballpoint variant
For Ed's packaged deals, I'm sure it had more to do with demand than anything. The first sets went flying out of the gate, then the second offer was pretty hot as well. Now that a lot of us have cooled in buying all the variants, the sets aren't as easy to move, and if he's getting less price/set, maybe he's still making money of it, but not enough to justify the time required.
