Lets be fair, Michael Bay is very good at what he does. You may not like what he does (I don't) but he makes lots of explosive, fun movies that sell tickets.Aram wrote:It could be Much worse. What if it was Michael Bay?tchalla8 wrote:
I'm sorry, but as long Brett Ratner is involved with Harbinger quality is going to be a question.
Just like selling monthly pamphlets (I am never going to let them live that one down, was it Dinesh himself who typed it?) is the name of the game, selling movie tickets is the name of the movie game. Regardless of what us fanboys (and girl) tend to want to believe.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Are you really going to question Abed when it comes to TV and film? well, are you?Chiclo wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYGxEzEm0VA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;tchalla8 wrote:I'm sorry, but as long Brett Ratner is involved with Harbinger quality is going to be a question.
I don't get the Ratner hate.
Though Season 3 of Community did sorta suck...

I thought X3 was fine...he didn't write it, which was where the biggest issues were...but from a directorial standpoint it wasnt bad.etos45 wrote:I really liked X-Men 3.tchalla8 wrote:Its not hate. He's just notoriously mediocre. He really doesn't have a stellar movie on his resume.![]()
If he did a Harbinger like that, I'd probably like it too... in the theater alone.

Mmm, they may be the bread and butter of publishers with 50 year long pedigrees, virtually unlimited pop culture name recognition for the characters and astronomical financial backing -- but that's not Valiant. Don't get me wrong, I hope they're able to release one blockbuster after another, I just doubt it's present feasibility.Aram wrote:No movies are actually the bread and butter of the industry today. ...VEI is definitely banking on making good movies.
But who knows. Hellboy was a great movie and had a comparatively miniscule readership compared to Batman.

That was Guillermo Del Toro. Ratner is no Del Toro.jmatt wrote:Mmm, they may be the bread and butter of publishers with 50 year long pedigrees, virtually unlimited pop culture name recognition for the characters and astronomical financial backing -- but that's not Valiant. Well they keep saying Ratner is attached, but without a studio involved, that is meaningless. Once they sell the rights to a studio, then we can start talking, because you never know who they will want to bring in, who they like or don't like, and how much they want to spend on a director.tchalla8 wrote:That was Guillermo Del Toro. I'm pretty sure Paramount is attached to the Harbinger film, unless something has changed.BugsySig wrote:Well they keep saying Ratner is attached, but without a studio involved, that is meaningless. There have been a lot of lesser named character based movies that did fairly well. Hellboy, Constantine, Sin City, Kick-*SQUEE*, The Crow... The MASK... Men In Black...jmatt wrote:Mmm, they may be the bread and butter of publishers with 50 year long pedigrees, virtually unlimited pop culture name recognition for the characters and astronomical financial backing -- but that's not Valiant. No-names in the comic industry can easily become household names today just by having a half-way decent movie made. Even if it doesn't have mass appeal to bring in the cash at the theaters it can be made on home video aka Scott Pilgrim.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

The Walking Dead. Though that has more to do with the resurgence of Zombie stories than it was based upon a comic book.Aram wrote:There have been a lot of lesser named character based movies that did fairly well. Specialty cable stations seem a viable market for these IPs.
