Valiant Release
Well I was reading the CGC boards today and there were two threads talking about Valiant (both were older) and several of the posters have little faith Valiant will succeed. It got me thinking about what Valiant is doing correctly and what they need to do in order to succeed. It seems to me they have done several things that gives me confidence:
-They seem to be hiring successful industry people to manage the company.
-They secured the required funding to plan for their relaunch.
-They are not rushing to get product out the door for the sake of just putting product out.
-They believe in their product.
I don't know much about the state of the industry, besides the market is tougher then it used to be, but it appears everything is about variants and rehashing the same stories again and again. A company with new and refreshing ideas may be exactly what the industry needs right now. I know the odds are stacked against a successful Valiant return, but I feel the right steps are being taken to give the company the best chance of succeeding. What do you all think they have done right or wrong so far?

Re: Valiant Release
I believe that another key at suceeding is to have books come out when they are scheduled and not have writers change mid storyline those are big issues at least for me.

I agree with both of those statements, and I'd like to add that I'd like to see the stories have a long term direction. I just like it when there is a payoff to the long term reader, but it's nothing so significant that someone jumping on would be forced to go back and read if they hadn't already. Kind of like how Unity was a build up of many things that came before it, but if you started at Unity #0 you didn't feel too lost.

Re: Valiant Release
Another thing that I feel they need to do is not come out with a whole bunch of titles at one time, but release a few at a time and build not only the story but the fan base as well. Valiant does have a core of faithful fans yet to survive in this age of comics they need to gain new fans. With Marvel and DC being pretty much every new reader's first choice, newer fans can be drawn in if they aren't flooded with multiple titles from Valiant that will probably spend their money on DC/Marvel instead of taking money away from those titles they are already purchasing.

Re: Valiant Release
Agreed. I want to know that even if I get three arcs of four issues each, that there was long term planning, not just an editor sitting there going "I'll get A, B and C to do a story and then I'll hack in some connecting material." If I were starting a company, I would pretty much want to have my writers on my intial books locked in for, say, 18 issues worth of story.etos45 wrote:comicsyte95 wrote:I believe that another key at suceeding is to have books come out when they are scheduled and not have writers change mid storyline those are big issues at least for me.

Do you feel Valiant has made the right decisions up to this point? Any areas where they have dropped the ball?

I think slow stead and done right works well after that do good work and consistent storys that drove the original valiant and it will do well and its a good time with comics doing a little rebound the last few months

One thing that was said at the Jeopardy/Poker Game:
Dino: "Fred how many books have come out late while you were publisher?"
Fred Pierce (Valiant Publisher): "None"

Other than that, I've been pretty happy with what they've been doing since the announcement.

Re: Valiant Release
Yup, that's a start. But alot of it had to have been luck. I wonder how many other authors wrote books about wizards and crap, yet ended up in the toilet. Timing is everything, right place right time right publisher right marketing right audience and boom she's richer than Oprah.dhudson1 wrote:Good stories with compelling characters that you care about, coming out when expected!comicsyte95 wrote:Movies!!!ilan wrote:Whatever JK Rowling did to make Harry Potter a phenomenon, do that.
