I am liking Suicide Squad also. Kind of witty banter and a nice double cross ta boot. I am not familiar with the characters so this is a fresh read for me. I am not sure if this is the real Harley Quinn or not though.
Blackhawks is not a bad read, nothing spectacular but I remember reading this title YEARS ago and picked it up out of a bit of respect to find it pretty readable.
I can't say enough about the Bat-Titles though. I am enjoying those a great deal except for Nightwing,

Nightwing feels a little off to me as well. The whole circus boy stuff really is dated and the rest of the book looks and feels like something Image may have put out in the early 90s.Knightt wrote:I am liking Suicide Squad also. Suicide Squad is good fun and getting better issue by issue. It is the real Harley Quinn, just how she is in the new universe. Or do you think there is something more here? My only complaint is Deadshot, he just isn't quite the same and I was a big fan of the old version.

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
I ended up not reading any of the #3s, except Batwoman.
I may go back and find a way to read a few, but overall, nothing feels like a must read. Even the better titles, like Action, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, etc., don't feel really great. They are plenty good, just not great.
Plus, the more I read comics in digital form, the more I dislike reading floppies. They are such a pain. Embrace digital!

Yeah, we all look for / get different things out of comics. The only book that is close to "fun" that I'm reading from the new 52 is Aquaman, which you've said you enjoyed. I can see it becoming heavy though.Tim wrote:I think I've passed the point where I care about page layouts and any technical aspect of comics. I just want to read stuff that's fun.
I think you've tried Daredevil, right? DD and Chew are the funnest book I read. I've heard good things about Reed Gunther, but haven't tried it yet.

Bummer. Do you think reading 52 #1s in a month had anything to do with how you feel now? (from a burnout perspective)
I'm definitely becoming a bit more apathetic as time goes on.

It's the first book I pull out of my box when my DCBS order comes in.400yrs wrote:I think you've tried Daredevil, right? DD and Chew are the funnest book I read. I've heard good things about Reed Gunther, but haven't tried it yet.

I'm enjoying Waid's Daredevil as much as I've ever enjoyed a book.

I know this is not the thread for this, but I wanted to say that I really enjoy reading Reed Gunther. If you are looking for something that is a real fun read with good humour, you should pick this one up.400yrs wrote: I've heard good things about Reed Gunther, but haven't tried it yet.

Burn out played a big part in it. 52 comics is just waaaaay too many for me to read.400yrs wrote:Bummer. Do you think reading 52 #1s in a month had anything to do with how you feel now? (from a burnout perspective)Dr. Solar wrote:I ended up not reading any of the #3s, except Batwoman.

That, plus reading 52 issues of Eternal Warrior earlier this month kinda burned out my comic reading.

Unless you are considering celibacy or sex reassignment surgery, I suggest the Flash run. All Star Western #3. This was fine, but this is the first of the DC series that I'm officially dropping. Issue 5 will be my last. The first issue was excellent, but nearly every Jonah Hex story is the same. At $3.99, this is a pretty easy decision.

Read Aquaman #4 and really liked it. Can't really say a lot about the storyline without spoilers, so I will just say that Aquaman and Mera went looking for the people that were taken. The comic was a quick read, as there was not a lot of dialogue (mostly art). I was hoping there would be some more meat to this issue as it was the last one in the story arc.

Flash #4 - Beautiful art and layouts. The first story arc is starting to wrap up, but not too much has happened.
The feeling that I'm getting throughout ALL of the New 52 books that I'm reading is extreme decompression. Every single book I'm reading is clearly being written in arcs for trades. Story-wise, it's taking a full arc (5 issues or so) to get to what should be a single issue or maybe two issues.
I like the stuff I'm reading, but I'm not sure how long I can justify buying these books with so little story being told.

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
Art, boring story, couldnt hook me and besides, I already am reading so many titles it may not take much to make a DC book fall off for me. I think All-Star Western, Blackhawks, Justice League and Frankenstein will not make it through this day either. I've been home all week on leave (I am gearing up for graduation and Hell Week/Month from my boss, we come back from the Holidays and we have to brief status reports then the blood and fur start flying) on trying to knock out some serious reading and it has also turned into a culling session... a much needed culling session. I think that I can just tell by now which books will not be on my to read list 6 months from now, so I will stop wasting time.leonmallett wrote:What turned you off The Shade?Knightt wrote:I've lost interest in Catwoman, Deathstroke and The Shade.
Besides, I will be able to pick the majority of these titles up for at least 50% off cover price. They offer things now like all the #1s and up to all #6s for 50% off, so its only a matter of time before they will go to single issues but I hope they go the route like they have done with the new Punisher series and some others where I have picked up a few titles for $.35 an issue. Those cheap issues may be limited to heavy order books like #s 1-4 or something like that.

Shame about the Shade - I have been quite charmed by it.
That said, I have been pretty underwhelmed by the small amount of new 52 books I have been reading, and a few have been dropped already.

Maybe I just don't want to give it a try... not being a DC fan, the only Shade that I know is Shade the Changing Man which I remember picking up off the rack while on vacation as a kid and thinking "WTF is this ? Let me go back to my Batman and G.I. Combat comics." What do you like about it and are charmed by ?leonmallett wrote:Shame about the Shade - I have been quite charmed by it.

Are you a huge DC reader and already reading DC or in the middle, just jumping on ? For this me is a HUGE change because I was reading three Batman books and chucking the rest (kind of a known act but Jim Lee drawing Batman 608 got me BACK to the comic shop where I spied this TPB of XO-Manowar. There were two, the normal cover and the blue cover priced at $1.00 and $2.00 respectively. The LCS owner said, 'DUUUHHHH you might UUUUUHHHH want to pick up the blue cover UUUUHHHHHH grumble grumle SNORT because the blue cover is worth more or so I've heard. I picked up both headed to Las Vegas put my nekkid wife "on hold" because I wanted to finish the XO TPB and BEHOLD, my quest for Valiant began and here I sit *and BOY did I pay for putting the little lady on hold, let me tell ya brother) So, long story short I cam back to comics with Batman, rediscovered Valiant and to this day my primary focus is Batman and Valiant... for me to be reading this many DC comics, highly unusual. Batman, not so much but "Action Comics" or "Batwoman"... "Justice League Dark", well somebody slap my butt, scratch glass and paint me blue.
I gotta get back to Punisher and Captain America now.... but am seriously interested in why you like Shade and DC in general. I've never understood why anyone read DC (besides Batman) anyways.

On Shade - I really enjoyed Robinson's Starman in the 90's and this follows on from that.
As for DC; Cap and the Avengers aside, I was always a DC reader (from 1979 onwards), far more than Marvel, so DC comics have been inexorably entwined and dominant within my reading. To see this 'New 52' is pretty painful.
Maybe as an analogy this will work: I wasn't a VALIANT reader in its heyday, instead picking it up as a DU. But for those guys that were, I guess the transition to the Acclaim era was jarring and unnerving, and not what they had been reading previously.
Well DC has not been the "DC that I knew" for many years, but this New 52 has possibly hit the lowest point for me.
I now probably read as many non-DC or Marvel titles as any by the big 2, and cannot see me picking more big 2 comics up any time soon. Marvel are at a point where I feel I still recognise my favourite books (Avengers titles) and I read the Ultimate line and know what to expect there. DC just feels like a mess to me and so to be slowly drifting away from DC after 32 years is pretty hard to stomach.
