cosmic Physics Brawl
I was wondering if anyone here with a combination of common sense and physics knowledge would be interested in helping me develop a blow-by-blow realistic battle. Precise distances, magnitudes and colors are appreciated, as that will make it much easier for me to create scenes progressions based on these. I know some of this is going to be sci-fi, so please bear with me. Suggestions on improving realism or altering the way things work are welcome.
This is, in a way, a very elaborate 'vs'. Friction, air pressure, gravity, tensile strength are all in full play.
The Players
Nihil: A carbon 60 supercomputer comes from the depths of space (similar to 2001's Obelisk) and melded with a single human being. He has a body composed of carbon nanotubes. He uses superconductive elements for the equivalent of a nervous system. He uses a mix of quantum computing and holographic data storage to manage and manipulate his body. this would allow him, in some ways, to 'take over' mass and energy from radiant sources and to adhere to and interact with materials around him.
He is also capable of using his structure to generate 'energy, which is to say, streams of photons, electrons, protons, etc.
Cosmic: Made out of 'wound up' Cosmic string he is capable of 'gravity lenses', he can curve space and has internal compact dimensions he uses for energy emission and computation. He is, in essence, cosmic string somehow bent into human shape.
The fight occurs in the space between the Earth and the Moon and the Earth and the Sun, but it can go to Earth, Moon and other planets if plausible.

I can help with the physics stuff but I am not real long on the "common sense".
Carbon-60? You mean a nucleus with 6 protons and 54 neutrons? Not only does that seem a bit imbalanced but it would overwhelm the weak nuclear force. That nucleus would not be stable.
I often find "common sense" to be neither.

I can't say that I understand this too much, but I'll give it the ol' college try.

This is all great, but the only thing that stands out is his shape. What that means is that this is a prime opportunity to use what is widely forgotten in cosmic comics - immediate omnidirectional movement.RJMooreII wrote:The Players

Weird. Uh, well the only logical connection I can make is that you should create an option for this guy using string theory then. This means that he can attack nearly instantaneously from any direction regardless of where he was before he began the attack. If not that, then dip into quantum physics and make it a key battle tactic for this guy to have the ability to maneuver into the space we all exist in via black matter. That might be cool especially with your obelisk computer thingy moving in any spatial direction in an instant.RJMooreII wrote:Cosmic: Made out of 'wound up' Cosmic string he is capable of 'gravity lenses', he can curve space and has internal compact dimensions he uses for energy emission and computation. Considering the motion paths I've described above, these locations become one of two things: a moot point, or a dimensional thing. I'd go with the dimensional thing and find ways to draw the fight spanning each location simultaneously.RJMooreII wrote:The fight occurs in the space between the Earth and the Moon and the Earth and the Sun, but it can go to Earth, Moon and other planets if plausible.

Very cool stuff, IMJ. I like the idea of one or more of the players being able to 'skip' over space, shifting to diverse regions at the same time. Now I just have to figure out something on how it would look!
One thing I was thinking, also, is that the one using cosmic strings might be able to let 'tendrils' of the 1d string fly off and curl them around things to form miniature, short-lived event horizons. He could perhaps also use this on pieces of matter and quickly have them deteriorate in a nice big explosion.

It would involve a lot of transitional handwaving; since you can't see cosmic strings (they're one dimensional). Though you could theoretically (and easily) detect them due to the massive effects they would have on anything they hit.slym2none wrote:Well, I know I would be interested in seeing a pic of this...
