dave wrote:The only books that anyone who has a set would even want are Magnus 0, 1-12 and #64 Why would I even pay $60 for that?

Shipping is one thing, but buying sight unseen balances that out.

If the Magnus/Predator trade was in there maybe it would sell tha thuhg, I think that other one was probably a fluke. How high was the seller's rating? Higher than 3?
Funny thing is I sold two Magnus sets last summer on ebay and I got $200 for one of them and $300 for another. There are people who suddenly get into the series, they want the whole thing, and they don't want to take the time to put it together. So $160 isn't really a fluke, but it makes sense that all the fans here already have it and thus don't understand the value.

Complete set sold for $160.00 on September 15. And it did not include the zero issue

We all get wrapped up because we already own the set, more than one in many cases, and would not pay that for another set, but it can and does sell for this price.
Hey, thanks for the back up. I was a huge valiant collector for a while and sold numberous valiant sets for lots of money when I decided to unload them. I guess I didn't realize all the fans here already have everything.

My Sheldon-sense detects sarcasm.

I also find it worth pointing out that most of us here have this run already and your convenience is something we find redundant and overpriced by a full order of magnitude.
Sarcasm is easy to detect when someone dumps a truck load of it on your shoes.

You yourself make the point that most of the people here have the Magnus set already which means some people don't and those people might want to save some time and effort and get the whole thing in one shot.

Though I wonder how convenience can be redundant. You'll have to explain that one.

$60?! I should have to pay you for taking these worthless sets off my hands. That would be more realistic.
so what you're saying is my $20 offer is more than generous.
Oh totally, just send the $20 bucks in cash.

Just search the completed listings on ebay and you'll see reality.
I'm part of the completed listings on ebay. I've sold Magnus sets for $200 and $300, Solar sets for $140 and $120, and I sold a set of pre-Unity valiants for $400. Lots of people pay more for full sets because they like the convenience.

That's a good point. I hope for everyone's sake that Shooter can pull off some old magic and write some great new stories.

I'll take care of all the tax, title, and realtor fees.

As far as a punishment for reneging I suppose I could be sent to the same place the post Shooter Valiants have gone.

Judgmental? You are the one coming on a site that could be considered the expert opinion on VALIANT issue values and say that we don't know the value of a Magnus set just because you are selling one for $160 and one happened to sell on eBay one time for $160?

Look at recent completed auctions and give me an average. I bet it would be less than $160 - lots less.

And "newb" (or the derivations of) is always a term of endearment. When we want to insult someone, they will know it.

captain1stern,

Just roll with ot and laugh.
This is a good group, but you can't be thin skinned.

Honestly, I hope you get big bucks on ebay, I woupd like to see the prices climb.
But most here have fairly complete sets, the only selling draw here is
rarer items such as certain gold, certain VVSS, and project books.

But stick around and join the conversation.

I sold a set just like yours about a year ago for around $75 shipped. I think they've been going for around that price now - some higher, some lower due to fluctuations and fluke sales.

As a seller, I find that it's convenient for me to sell books in bulk so I don't have to pack things multiple times, going to the post office multiple times, . . .

Good luck with your sale and stick around for a while. :thumb:

Good that it's the nice newb. I've actually sold out my Valiant sets for significant money. I don't know how other sellers have done buy I sold a Magnus set for $200 and $300 on ebay, Solar sets for $120 & $140, and a pre-unity set for $400. It's just a matter of finding the right customer who values quality and convenience.

So you're saying that everyone on this site owns a complete set? Have you taken a survey to prove this or are you just assuming. We might not have everything that you have. If we did, one of us wouldn't have just bought a Solar Alpha & Omega hardcover from me for $50. Check your rear view; I'm not in it.

Thank you, I appreciate the invite. I've gotten higher sales but I've been willing to wait for the right costumer. You are right, one shipment is way easier than lots of little packages.

Just to throw my 2 cents in, I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate (imagine Master Darque in a nice suit, lol) for Captain1stwhathisname.

The way I see it is, what all you hardened, crusty ol' forum regs seem to be forgetting is there is no arbitrary "worth" to any commodity, ESPECIALLY collectibles. I mean sure, there is a definite spread of "value" that you have learned and regard as "normal", "appropriate", "fair", or whatever. But value and worth are very different things. I mean, even an Acclaim <ahem> Valiant can be "worth" hundreds of dollars- if you can find someone who will pay it. In short, what a set/book/variant or whatever is really "worth"- and this is what I've come to think is the only real way to look at this- is what someone will pay for it.

Does that mean that coming to an established forum populated with people who are more knowledgable than most on this particular matter and claiming "worth" which is considerably higher than the accepted range is a good idea? That's probably still not the best move, no.

Anyway, my two cents.

BTW, in most of y'alls opinion, which nullifies n00biosity faster, post count or time spent as a registered member, regardless of post count?

http://cgi.ebay.com/1993-TUROK-DINOSAUR ... 0696168079

Here's a copy of Turok #1 that sold for $0.99 plus $3.75 S&H on 9/19/2010. Someone paid $4.74 for a Turok #1. Does that mean that all our Turok #1s are now worth $4.74 each?

Yet if you search for completed auctions, there are a couple of pages of unsold Turok #1s with similar starting prices. I would say that the $4.74 sale is a fluke sale and that Turok #1s normally don't sell for that much (based on all the other unsold auctions).
