Will VEI be making anymore hardcovers?

It's not like it's going to affect her career in comics, since Shooter is the only one that still gives her a shot. She's talented and I'm sure she's nice, but...as I said. Either way, I just felt it needed to be said. Sometimes, words hurt.Brother J wrote:ok, and you have personal knowledge of this?xodacia81 wrote:It's precisely what you imagine it is and I make no bones about it.Brother J wrote:uh, could I ask what this is referring to?xodacia81 wrote: As for "JJ"? I wouldn't trust anything "the bottle" has to say, given it's always about 110 proof.
Not really trying to start a fight, but I have met Jay Jay, and she is a very nice person, so something sounding like an accusation like this bothers me a bit unless you know it personally to be 100% accurate.

Have you tried dropping Dino a line?orbitalshift wrote:I don't get VEI, I have bought every product they have made, all very nice. They are killing themselves with the silent treatment towards the fans. It's ok if they don't have the cash or know how to move ahead. Why not just come out and say, this is where we are at, this where we are trying to go and this is whats going on now. If they did that once every couple of months, I think folks could deal with it. All the secrecy puts me off, I'll get what ever comes out, I just don't like the way they treat the fans. They are simply killing off what could have been their best asset, those of us that already love the characters.
He's in a precarious place. Any time he says anything here it is overanalyzed and many try to read between the lines.

No I haven't tried to email anyone, I went to their site and the only email I could find was just a form inquiry email. I will try that if I can find an appropriate email.
I understand what you are saying we are fans, and we can be annoyingly persistent, but don't you think some of that has to do with the lack of information. I don't think he should get into a flame war here on the boards but just write something up every couple months even if nothing new has happened just to say thank you for the people that are interested enough in these characters to spend their time on a message board ten years after any new material. The point of my post, is that the value of the characters they purchased is primarily in us, and our love of that universe. It seems VEI really needs someone that understands that and can leverage the passion the fans on this board and elsewhere have.
I'm not pro VEI or anti VEI, I'm pro Valiant Universe. I want new books and if I can't have them, then I just want to know what those who own those characters are doing to get to a place where there will be new books.
Could you imagine a sports team not playing any games, hiring and firing players and making no announcements or acknowledging their fans. They wouldn't have many fans left after a while. Apathy would set in, then nothing, no one would care.
Sure we are fans, rabid at times, we argue, and read between the lines, and even jump to conclusions and jump on every rumor bandwagon that comes along, but all of that beats the hell out of apathy.

I couldn't agree more. I understand VEI doesn't *owe* fans any official announcement, but saying something plainly and openly every once in a while would go a long way towards keeping up the morale. You would think we'd be the target audience should VEI ever get around to publishing comics, so acknowledging such great fan interest shouldn't be such a chore.orbitalshift wrote: I understand what you are saying we are fans, and we can be annoyingly persistent, but don't you think some of that has to do with the lack of information. I totally agree with orbitalshift.
I bought all three of the hardcovers despite the fact that I already had the regular issues.
I already own the Harbinger and XO softcover TPB from back in the day. Also own a full run of A&A, which can be bought for a quarter an issue, but nonetheless, still bought all three of their hardcovers.
VEI should atleast acknowledge or thank their loyal fans for supporting them.
I am betting that I am not the only one who feels this way.

Dr Mirage, you're not the only one.
At this point, I don't care that much if VEI publishes new Valiant comics. There are plenty of other good comics that come out every month. It has been brought up multiple times, on and off the board, that VEI has only one shot of bringing back the Valiant universe and they want to do it right and that's why they're keeping silent so they don't shoot themselves in the foot.
Guess what, that one shot was probably when there was Harbinger movie hype and deluxe hardcovers were being published. That time has come and gone and there's no more Valiant hype. Maybe that was their one shot.
I still love the Valiant characters and will re-read my Valiant comics from time to time. I would be content if there are no new Valiant comics. If VEI publishes new comics, I'd probably give it a try but I won't have the same level of excitment as a couple of years ago with the movie and HC hype.

But if the stories are good, and we are all talking about the books, then (I think) we will all be caught up in the hype of it all.
Bottom line, when the books come out if they are good, then it will be good, if they suck, then it will be lame.
I am NOT saying that VEI has made all good decisions, they have not. But it will be interesting to see how everyone on this board reacts to the new books.
There has been waaaaay more VEI haters than "supporters" so when new books come out, and they are good, ....... we'll it will be interesting.
But.... if new books never come out...... then, we have what we have.

I am 50 years old, I figure I have 20 good years that I can wait to see these characters again in print before I start getting upset.
I really don't understand all the mixed emotions, I just want to read good stories with these characters. "When" and "If" they ever get product in the stores, it will stand on it's own merits, and even though Dinesh and I are friends (a friendship that started on this board many years ago), I reserve my right to like it or not.
Reality is, there were no other takers at the auction who were willing to pay for these IP's. These guys stepped up to the plate and are doing the best they can with what they've got as far as talent and money for now. Maybe it's not good enough for everyone here, but that's the deal. If some members here feel disrespected because of the lack of information available to them, I don't think that was anyone's intent. Hopefully in the long run it'll all work out for VEI and the fans, if not, hopefully the board will still be here so we can continue to have a place to meet new people and discuss VALIANT.
Having started my own company from scratch in an industry where I didn't have a lot of experience (like 0), I know how difficult it is and how hard it is to deal with the "little things" along the way that are actually "big things", but you don't know that yet. I deal with people everyday who have worked for me for a few months and are ready to be President of the company and feel they could do a better job than me. Reality is, they don't really have a clue and don't understand the most difficult part of the job is managing "them" and not all the things I do on a daily basis that don't "look" to hard because I've been doing them for 20 years. VEI has a long way to go before they are set up to operate this way, but it should come eventually.
All we can do is wait the process out, cross our fingers, and wish for the best.

I think the lack of updates is the most frustrating thing. As discouraged as I am by the silence, if books are eventually published, even without the Gold Key characters, I think it would be tough for me to resist at least giving them a shot if reviews are positive.
The best thing I can compare this to is Marvel's handling of their new Marvelman property. Ever since they announced acquiring it, there isn't a month or two that goes by without them saying something about it, even if it is only saying there is no new news. Just like the Valiant characters, I'd love to see Marvelman being published, but instead of keeping their names/characters visible, VEI has chosen not to say anything, and that has a bearing on how enthusiastically I'll support their books in the future.

ok, lets be more realistic. It's like buying a 1991 Honda Accord. The miles are low because it went into storage around 2000 and it still runs good but once they did have to drive their drunk friend home from a party and he puked in the backseat. They did their best to clean it out but on warm days you can still sorta hear the smell.orbitalshift wrote:Its like buying a new car then taking a sledge hammer to it.

The addage "no news is good news" in this case is 100% wrong. word of mouth = hype = more sales than no word of mouth/hype
