Solar is such a rip off!
The Solar character is such a rip off of the blue guy in Watchmen.
Re: Solar is such a rip off!
The original Solar, published by Gold Key, predates Watchmen. And that's what Valiant's Solar is based off of.jaggy wrote:The Solar character is such a rip off of the blue guy in Watchmen.
Perhaps Dr. Manhattan, 'the blue guy', is a rip off of the Gold Key Solar?

Re: Solar is such a rip off!
The Valiant Solar isnt too much like the original, only thing is that the character read the original when he was a kid and copied his kooky tights. But the Alpha Omega story and the character background are too similar to the blue guy.steverino wrote:The original Solar, published by Gold Key, predates Watchmen. Re: Solar is such a rip off!
Um.. I don't recall the 'blue guy' recreating an entire universe. Nor did Solar become a pawn of the government, and Solar went into a fusion reactor whereas the 'blue guy' went into a "Intrinsic Field Subtractor".jaggy wrote:The Valiant Solar isnt too much like the original, only thing is that the character read the original when he was a kid and copied his kooky tights. Also, Solar was very faithful to his girl, whereas Dr. Manhattan was moral slime.

You do not understand what Chiclo is.ian_house wrote:I don't see the link personally. Watchmen were all based on the Charlton characters that DC owned. Doctor Manhattan specifically was based on Charlton's Captain Atom.
For some reason I have a feeling that this topic may get Chiclo-ed in a while. I think the blue naked guy is perfect fodder!

I think he was a little Aspy.. not on purpose.. just becasue he didnt understand. I think he actually felt a little bad, for himself, that he couldnt relate... but not so much that he didnt continue his quest for knowledge and such.
Seems like he could have thought up a way to create himself a concious.. or learn empathy

Re: Solar is such a rip off!
I thought he had a conscious and empathy, but decided to abandon them. That was my interpretation anyways.IanAlexavier wrote:steverino wrote: Dr. Manhattan was moral slime.

Re: Solar is such a rip off!
Of course its not exactly the same, but too much similarity. Didnt the blue guy destroy something and then goes to that planet to be alone like solar's energy land?steverino wrote:Um.. Everything is a rip off of everything else. If you can think of it, it has been done and if you can't, it has been done anyway. If you get too hung up on where this bit was taken from and why that bit is like that then it will diminish your enjoyment.

If it weren't for someone plagiarizing the Honeymooners, we
wouldn't have the Flintstones. If someone hadn't ripped off Sgt.
Bilko, they'd be no Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum,
Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney.
Sorry. This just reminds me of a Simpsons episode.

Here we sit broken hearted.
No VALIANT to read,
'Cause Gold Key Parted.
Magnus is gone,
And the art is the worst.
Dino cant publish,
'Cause movies come first.
