The Valiant Solar isnt too much like the original, only thing is that the character read the original when he was a kid and copied his kooky tights. But the Alpha Omega story and the character background are too similar to the blue guy.

Um.. I don't recall the 'blue guy' recreating an entire universe. Nor did Solar become a pawn of the government, and Solar went into a fusion reactor whereas the 'blue guy' went into a "Intrinsic Field Subtractor".

Also, Solar was very faithful to his girl, whereas Dr. Manhattan was moral slime.

I don't see the link personally. Watchmen were all based on the Charlton characters that DC owned. Doctor Manhattan specifically was based on Charlton's Captain Atom.
