also, Magnus used to wear brown boots, but then, he wore white boots to make him look even more gay. i know this is going to sound crazy, but when i first purchased my Magnus books, i did not even notice he wore boots. then, a few years later, when i re-purchased the Magnus books is when i noticed that he wore go-go gay boots. shiny white.
ohmm, maybe i should change my username or go to therapy...

Magnus and his outfit were just a reflection of the 60's translating into a "future" look. To me, it's unique and iconic. Just as much as Superman's cape and tights.PhoneyBone wrote:Someone today picked up my bound copy of Magnus Robot Fighters and the first thing they said was, "Why is this dude wearing go-go boots?" It's that lack of caring about making characters look cool that sunk them. Comics have a huge cool-factor and between Harbinger where everyone wore t-shirts and jeans to HARD Corps where everyone was in the same plain red coveralls, valiant just got an F in that category.
I can spend all day pointing to comics with great writing that failed to sell after 2 years. And to the opposite I can walk into any comic book store and point out that the longest selling comics have had way more bad writing than good. But they are based on characters that look bad a$$.
Valiant was more about the character development and less about the standard superhero uniform (at least in the beginning). I don't think the lack of cool outfits sunk them, it was the substandard writing and mediocre ideas that developed after they veered from Shooter's original vision.

IIRC Liefeld wanted to a do a mini-series prequal that explained Supreme's origin and eventually (years later) it was done as The Power of Supreme or The Glory of Supreme or something like that.megatronthe3rd wrote:Yeah I never got what that was about either?dave wrote:Weren't all of the Supreme #1's marked Volume Two or something? I do not want to sound mean, but Liefeld is an arrogant jerk with little talent and he was always late. He was the posterchild of what was wrong with Image comics in the early 90s. He sucks.Cyberstrike wrote:IIRC Liefeld wanted to a do a mini-series prequal that explained Supreme's origin and eventually (years later) it was done as The Power of Supreme or The Glory of Supreme or something like that.megatronthe3rd wrote:Yeah I never got what that was about either?dave wrote:Weren't all of the Supreme #1's marked Volume Two or something? Also, why do all of Liefeld's characters have the same facial expression, mouth slightly open, teeth shinning, "ahhhrrrr" sound. Does he know how to draw different expressions? seriously, the dude sucks.

The concluding paragraph on the final page of the website summarizes it all:iggy101us wrote:Join the club http://progressiveboink.com/archive/robliefeld.htmlmagnusrobot12 wrote:I do not want to sound mean, but Liefeld is an arrogant jerk with little talent and he was always late. "Rob Liefeld is still getting commissioned to do work for both major comics publishers. He is one of the most successful, recognizable, well-known and popular comic book artists in history despite being difficult to work with, egotistical, contrary and missing deadlines on a consistent basis. He has made more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes. He still cannot draw a foot."
He has more money than all of us. It just goes to show that it is better to be lucky then good. That pretty much sums it up. I'm going to cry now...

Fully agreed, and thanks, Iggy, that Leifeld site was hilarious.magnusrobot12 wrote:The concluding paragraph on the final page of the website summarizes it all:iggy101us wrote:Join the club http://progressiveboink.com/archive/robliefeld.htmlmagnusrobot12 wrote:I do not want to sound mean, but Liefeld is an arrogant jerk with little talent and he was always late.
