I love them both! I'm a fool nerd for anything that either one did -- I just wish I could do layout like Jack and be as consistent and realistic as Joe.
I always thought your style, if it had to be compared, was a meld of Windsor-Smith and Byrne. The first because of the way you do your layouts and your faces, but Byrn because of the "rawness". It's not a cribbed style as much as it is your style. I definitely noted an evolution and, dare I say it, an improvement, during the 18 chapters of Playing God.

BWS, Miller, Perez and, above all others, Byrne were the art gods during the formative years. I think I copied Uncanny 133 around 5 times.

Weird aside, back then I hated Kirby, Ditko and Gene Colan and said something to that effect in a line for Bob McLeod at a con in Memphis in 1983. Bob lit my ignorant *SQUEE* up!

It wasn't until I was in my late teens that I could even begin to see why those guys are giants.

As much as i hate to be the one to bring it up, Liefeld probably has some place in this. Maybe not so much for his art, but for his character/universe creation.
The cable and deadpool creations have spawned many issues and series based on them, thus tons of generated revenue for Marvel.
And then we have Image. I don't think there was anything bigger going on in comics in the early 90s besides the creation of this universe. It was everywhere.

Faces and shadows. And it was the cleaner-lined DD stuff that got me.

Gotta keep searching for that elusive balance in the backgrounds. Funny thing, if you look at the first few chapters, I so totally hated doing BG's and was so bad at it, Craig kept wondering if the characters were floating in a snowstorm.

Take a look though, those BGs are very basic and rough.

Oh, and Terry Austin. Def. Austin!

I think Rob would be a sort of reverse-Pete Rose for this hall. I think he's in eventually, based on how good he is to fans.

If we go with the "retired rule" would that allow us to cut down on the inductees? How many would go in per year or would there be a cap?

First, thanks for saying this. I spent a lot of time this past year getting things ready for the 40th anniversary of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. I'm happy to say that Bob will be at San Diego this year, the first time he's ever allowed a show to pay his way. That took me twisting Bob's arm, but he finally gave in.

I really think he deserves a lot more credit than he gets.

Second, a lot of the names in this thread are already in The Overstreet Hall of Fame, which we started in the Guide in 2006. We've been steadily adding the greats, ranging from before the Golden Age to today's folks. We've even had modern creators like Billy Tucci and Jim Shooter do some of the write-ups of those inducted.

There will be more entries in the 40th anniversary edition [begin plug mode] which goes on sale Wednesday, July 21, 2010 [end plug mode].

For those of you who don't get the Guide, the full listing of those inducted so far will be in our Free Comic Book Day offering.
