Is Milestone a Dead Universe (still) or not ?
With all the recent 'stuff' going on in the DC Universe... what is the DU sections consensus on this title? Is Milestone a Dead Universe or not ?

They published a finite amount of books and unless they revisit the previous continuity then what was should remain Dead.
Even if DC put out new books they would have to reference old continuity to make me feel any different.

I believe they will use teh feedback from the latest JLA story to see who they can give a mini series to, but my point is that unless they are directly linking the use of teh characters now to the old ontinuity then they are essentially a new set of characters.Knightt wrote:Isnt Icon or Static coming back into the DC light ? That way would you consider them to be back ?
If they connect the two then it is officially nbo longer dead.
I think DC will snaser this for us and leave no room for further discussion.
Maybe some can mesage Dwayne Mcduffie and get the defifnitive abswer right there bang on the money.

It WILL be interesting as to how this will develop. I would hate to lose a DU but if it comes back and is a success, then all the better.
Kinda like if Crossgen came back and held to the same standards, ya know ? Now THAT would make my day.
Having JUST started Milestone, I do not have a lot of time/emotion invested in it but I agree with Draco, if they stick to the old continuity, then 'they are back', 'DU gone' (but we 'could') keep it on the list for old times sake OR save it off in an archieve. If the characters come back and are different from when they 'left off' years ago then they can stay a DU.
When we come to a consensus, we will decide what to do.

Yes. The new appearanmces are not a direct continuation of the old Milestone universe, but rather a new iteraion of very similar versions of the same charcters within the DCU.
What comlicates the matter is that there are a couple of issues due intended to act as a coda to the old Milestone universe, so until they have been and gone, it is technically not a DU...

Yes, the first four issues of the ongoing as well as the 4 issue mini series.Brian Thomer wrote:I don't know how this affects your collecting of the issues, but it looks like DC is publishing trades of the previous material. I ahve what I feel is a complete collection, including the 2 tpb's, but I will buy the new collected editions. If only DC would try out the omnibus route that Marvel has commenced, collecting 25 issues or so at a time. In some ways Milestone could benefit from such an approach very well indeed.

I think that is the right call. In essence there will be two Milestones. one is the seperate, distinct universe (soon to be concluded), and the other is part of the DCU albeit with a very similar history.Knightt wrote:I'm keeping it as a DU for now.![]()
Izzat cool wit you guyses?
The (old) Milestone books (and the specials to conclude the dangling storylines from all those years ago) will be done and distinct for what they are.
I'm thinking that seeing as how the 'Milestone' books bear the 'Milestone' symbol, it defines that DU.
Just as with the NewUniversal books from Marvel... different characters, same concept but way different from the original New Universe books. It was great to see these forms of the characters show up recently (and made a great mini series) but withouth that New Universe stamp... it remains.

milestone
In the recent pages of batman and on line Dan DiDio was asked about the milestone universe he said they are polanning on bringing it back into the multiverse and they said they wouls start all over again and ignore ALL previous crossovers and interactions with the DC Universe
So it's all starting over again with a blank slate

Well with that being said, the Milestone Universe that I have in my comic boxes, remains intact and I will think of it as the original universe.
This whole fad of bringing back the old characters and 'giving them a fresh slate' is just a bad excuse for writers and their inability or not wanting to stick with the original canon. Sure it would be difficult to bring them back with the history intact but thats work, right ?
And from what I gather this last DC mini series pretty much started many things with a clean slate ?
I know that I am greatly disappointed to see that pic of Batman in a cave drawing a bat symbol along with other cave drawings. Darksied's 'omega beams' (?) not only destroy but they are also listed as being able to teleport beings to other places/times. I just don't like them messing with The Batman like that.
OK OK, back to Milestone... there were a few crossover events with the regular characters in the DC universe, I guess all that never happened ?
Geez, I am getting so disgusted with this 'ok lets shake the Etch-N-Sketch and start over again. It invalidates some incredible work from creators in the past that have crafted a very good history (for the most part). Sure there might be a few bumps in the history, but try to smooth them over and drive on... don't just erase them.

Its annoyed me too
I read about it on wikipedia and there is a link there to another page where he tells newsarama all bout the new ideas being brought up by Dwayne McDuffie and that the dakotaverse is now officially a place in the Dc Universe
I hate it when they do stories and crossovers then years later retcon it so it never happened marvel & DC are the biggest culprits for doing this what does anyone else think

It first off makes no sense for Superman, Icon, and company to just forget that they already met unless those versions of those characters no longer exist in the current DCU. What I mean is: the Superman and the Icon that met were wiped out their respective universes in a Crisis on Infinite Earths type style and were reborn with no knowledge of their previous lives which given DiBio's stupidity I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.
Second it's insult to the fans, that cared and supported for those characters through the years to have their Universe destroyed because a group of writers are too damn lazy to read a bunch of comics from the 1990s because they then to think that all the characters from the 90s are "gun-toting mother hating psychopaths that are barely recognizable from the villains they fight." Guess which current hotshot writer said that? Unless of course the same hotshot writer and his ilk writes about those said characters then they must be good.

dwayne mcduffie is reintroducing the universe slowly into the justice League he's writing but it seems stupid to me as he wrote the first time they crossed over with each other in July'94

Dan DiDio is bringing everyone back to life and all we need now is charlton brought back too:insane:

Re: Is Milestone a Dead Universe (still) or not ?
Yeah, I am pulling this 'dead thread' outta toll booth b!tches because after glancing through recent issues of Xombi and now the New 52 trash hit Static Shock and even DU member georgewlea coming back from the dead (hey bro) recently, I am in full support of many in this thread who say Milestone should stay a DU. None of the new books even come close to recapturing the 'defining my race by use of language and racial stereotyping in comics' vibe that the older line had nor does it seem to be a continuation of previous story lines, so the old stuff stays 'dead'.
I've not read this DU from cradle to grave (I don't even have a 100% in this collection, and may not want to) but the more I read it, the more the I think it pushes the envelope of racism. Every so often I actually read something that makes me feel 'that was unessessary. It is just me but I don't want to forget that racism ever happened but I also don't want it forced down my throat by hearing it brought up all the time. I.e if people would just treat each other halfway decent, a few generations from now the whole brown/white issue will be like this DU... an issue of the past.
