They could be, but is that really any reason why a finished book has not been released?MoonChild wrote:It can be either really good news or really bad news but I'm quite certain that its a good sign, With Shooter Available and whispers of Valiant attempting to relaunch sooner than expected they could really be knee deep in business affairs as well as creative direction and physical work underway.Ryan wrote:let's just hope for the best guys. Obviously there is something going on otherwise Dino would have posted on here by now. I think Dino and crew have been great for VALIANT and I applaud all the effort they've put forth to bringing our characters back in the way that we all love them.

It's pretty much really bad news. There is no reason (not even working hard on a relaunch) that should keep VEI from releasing a HC that's already finished. I really wish that Dino would chime in with something to let everyone know what the delay is now.MoonChild wrote:It can be either really good news or really bad news but I'm quite certain that its a good sign, With Shooter Available and whispers of Valiant attempting to relaunch sooner than expected they could really be knee deep in business affairs as well as creative direction and physical work underway.Ryan wrote:let's just hope for the best guys. It sucks, but I'm still going to keep the faith.

I'm worried there may be money problems. iirc Crossgen ended with misterious delays because they couldn't pay printing arrears so the printer wouldn't release the books. It just seems strange to me that there is such a long delay for a finished product.
I really hope that isn't the case though - I'm looking forward to have the complete valiant library in those hardcovers.

I think that Crossgen was also run poorly as a business from what I understand. I have more faith in VEI to have good business practices.t_inkster wrote:I'm worried there may be money problems. iirc Crossgen ended with misterious delays because they couldn't pay printing arrears so the printer wouldn't release the books. Anything is possible I suppose, but I rather doubt that will the case in this instance.t_inkster wrote:I'm worried there may be money problems. iirc Crossgen ended with misterious delays because they couldn't pay printing arrears so the printer wouldn't release the books. Wonder if it's something legal again. If Dino had a copy in hand like he said, the printer should have been done with them a while ago.
Maybe they are hard at work making pamphlets or whatever VEI calls comics.
It's mainly reprinted stuff so the release date really doesn't bother me. However, it doesn't give me any faith that they could put out pamphlets consisting of all new material on a timely basis.

no, your right, But being that it is just a hardcover they may be holding out till its done right If in fact the error has continued to occur [3 faulty hardcovers in a business deal with a print company would *SQUEE* me off too and I might just fire them and go elsewhere, which would take time]. But again i know squit just like the rest of us at this point.

This all coincides with a very public financial crisis...its a really good possibility that the capital that was there to release these books is no longer there.
I don't know dino as perhaps some of you do, but since he began speaking on the boards on VEI's behalf, it has seemed to me to be quite a bit of double-talk and rhetoric.
Its the oldest staple of successful business practices to under-promise and over-deliver. Too few businesses practice it these days and by this time, dino's former posturing on the matter of lateness is deafening by its silence.
Couple that with a significant piece of VEIs target market evaporating over the last couple months (as the purse strings are tightened...these "pamphlets" are luxuries to easily be eliminated from budgets) and I am sure that no matter what VEIs situation, their relaunch plans need heavy re-evaluating.

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

VEI obtained the rights to these characters almost FIVE YEARS AGO and in those five years all we have seen from them is two HC's with a combined print run of less then 5000.
With whatever money made off those HC's and what ever money made off the Harbinger movie rights has to be long gone.
That and all the legal troubles and the money needed for lawyers they could very well be close to if not already bankrupt.
The delays with the Harbinger HC. The delays in paying the artist for the XO HC. Now the mysterious delay with the A&A HC.
It seems that VEI has been behind that eight ball since day one and it has finally caught up to then.
Where's DH when you need them.

you count from the day they gained control over the properties. If you want to give them a mulligan for the time they spent in litigation, focusing on a name more than focusing on producing monthly pamphlets, fine. I don't. The big reason to focus on going to court for the names (besides principal) was that the names have much more marketability than the concept when it comes to selling the movie rights, video game rights etc.
They are coming up on year 4 and really haven't progressed much when it comes to actually relaunching a universe in monthly pamphlets. I'm losing patience with the double-talk I have been reading the last few months from their voice here and I didn't think I would. But it is getting to the point where I feel like dino is jerking me around. Sell it to me straight and don't treat me like a moron. If your focus is to sell the properties as movies or video games or re-release the old material with 2-5% "all new material" then just say so. I can respect that and appreciate the honestly. In fact I can understand if that is the gameplan. So far though, it seems like we are getting assurances they are doing one thing with no forward momentum towards it and I can't shake the feeling that I am being lied to.
Don't *SQUEE* down my back and then tell me that its raining.

Well I did just speak with Dino the other day and sent him a bunch of shadowman doubles so I want to assume we are jumping the gun here.
