Paul Levitz: DC’s digital strategy

Post by JLThorpe »

From what I understand, DC is looking to take their original comics stories, animate them, and offer them digitally. Sounds like the stuff CrossGen did years ago. The first chapter of Watchmen is available online:

It's not exactly the same as Marvel's DCU site, but it may be a stepping stone to offering comics digitally the way Marvel and/or GIT Corp do.

GIT Corp did some digital versions of Marvel books (DVD ROM) if I remember rightly, but I am sure their liscence has lapsed. They were in talks to possibly publish other publishers workd digitally (such as MLJ/Archie superheroes).

You're right about the Marvel license. Actually, they're releasing the Archie stuff (there's a Bronze Age Archie collection out now), and they're supposed to release a Star Trek set soon.

Okay, watched about 5 minutes of it. I think it is pretty cool. You have the art of comics, with the motion of a cartoon. It really seems to bring it to life.

I think it would be really cool to do Valiant Comics like that. :)

I downloaded it on iTunes.

I think I needed a credit card to set up my iTunes account, but it is free. I think with the new iTunes, to even get an account you need a CC.
