We can decide that night, but when I play tournaments with friends it goes like this:

$20 buy in.

20 white chips worth $25 apiece
10 red chips worth $100 apeice
5 blue chips worth $500 apeice

Total value $4000 worth of chips

We start with blinds at 25/50 and double the blinds every 10 or 15 minutes. That way it eventually forces action from the short stacks and keeps the game moving.

It's a pretty basic way to set up a tournament, but again we can decide that night. Just my $0.02
I'm confused.

Using that rule, if you lose you have to pay 4000 dollars? lol It doesn't sound right.

I thought it be more like 20 dollars to play with penny or quarter blinds.

Assigning the chips a higher value gives you more 'money' to play with. You only stand to lose your buy-in, be it $5, $20, or $10,000.

It also controls the amount of chips on the table. The way I had it set up(not we have to do it that way) gives everyone 35 chips(of different values) to start with, which is a manageable amount.

This also may be too confusing to discuss over a message board. Who started talking about this anyway?????

heh

Okay, it's like this

The only way to get from the Sheraton to the trolley is to take the hotel shuttle to the airport and then take a bus to the trolley station.

That means that I'm left to depend on the schedule of all three to determine how late I'm able to stay in the game. :thumb:

My hotel is too far away from the Sheraton to justify the expense, heh

Just make sure I don't get too drunk and I'll give you a ride.

Hmm... interesting dilemma.

I wanted you to get as drunk as possible so I could take all your money, but now if I do that I won't get a ride.

What to do? :P :hm:

Well, when you are over 7 feet tall, your strides don't take long to cover the miles. We shorter people are at a disadvantage.

I don't know.

Last year I was in the movie theater in Horton Plaza and, for the first time in my life, I had a panic attack because I was out in an unfamiliar city at night, unsure of how I was going to make it to the hotel, so I left in the middle of the movie to catch the last shuttle from the convention center to the hotel.

The area around the convention center is the red light district, with the porn shops and stuff, so I don't know how safe it is, heh, and that's where the trolley station is too.

If those that know better than me are sure that SD is safe, then I suppose there's nothing to worry about other than the bus and trolley schedules, heh.

I mean everywhere has crazy people. But I would consider SD a safe place. I was just in SD a few months ago. We walked form our hotel to downtown for dinner. It was not bad. (now we were with a group of people) There were some bums for sure, but no biggie.

Also, it's looks like the walk from SDCC to the hotel will be along the water. That is a nice walk.

But I still can see a bit of uneasiness.

You mean "Gas Lamp Quarter".

It's a big downtown area with a lot of night life. Plenty safe.

Looks like th ehotel is about 1000 feet from Harbor Drive, where you can catch a bus into downtown or to the trolley line for those that need it.

Transport should be pretty easy, actually, after looking at some of the transit maps.

I thought it be more like 20 dollars to play with penny or quarter blinds.
In tournament style, the amounts of the chips are TOKEN. They don't mean anything. They simply facilitate LARGER bets, when you don't want to put 893 chips in at once, and sit there counting them out. That's why a 1/2/5 ratio works the best.

The $20 buy in goes into a jar, and after that, it's last man standing.

It's just more fun to bet "ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS" than what the chips would actually represent if we divided the buy in by the amount of chips.

Makes me feel like a baller.

Unfortunately, it also leads to a very short game, and leads to "making change" issues. We should be playing with a minimum of 50 chips per person. Having the chips in a 1/2/5 ratio....whether that's $1, $2, $5, or $10, $20, and $50 (the assigned dollar amount is meaningless)....allows for higher bets without having to count endless chips.

I'm sure someone won't mind taking you back to your hotel, for a fair price for gas.

If you leave the game before you're out, you forfeit your chips and stake in the game.

I stayed at the hotel last year. The bus didn't stop there (the con shuttle does, but the regular bus doesn't. For that you need to take the hotel shuttle to the airport).
