Big Apple Report June 7-8, 2008

A friend asked me to help them out at this show...so I went. It was a DEAD show!..

But, on a positive side..

There were a few dealers showing off their Valiant stock. Very visible change from past shows. Some had mentioned to me, even middle run copies of everything were starting to sell for them.

One guy had a Valiant/Acclaim section..it was probably pecked at a bit, as I didn't find anything scarce. But the idea that it was on the top shelves and not on the bottom was a nice change.

Only found 1 copy of Harbinger: The Beginning today for $20.00..

It was gone on my next time around.

There were copies of Magnus 1 for $25.00, Rai 0 for $8.00..gone by shows end!..

Definitely Very Positive!

I can also chime in with the Capicon show I went to over this weekend here in Virginia. Although the dealers didn't bring much Valiants, there were literally tons of folks asking about them. While I was digging into dollar bins in each table, there would be a different person each time coming by asking whether the dealer had any Valiant Comics. Then I overheard another dealer talking with somebody saying that he's surprised that he's getting asked about Valiants quite frequently lately and that he will need to go dig out his old stock again. Times are definitely changing....

The dealer with the signed Valiant books is David, but his prices were a bit steep. Unfortunately he was the only dealer that had the pre-unity stuff. I ended up leaving the show around 12:30.

NYC streets are unpleasant enough when it hits mid-90's and above temps, which is okay when your destination warrants the trip in. However, stinky fanboys in cramped quarters, with the possibility that the AC may not be pumping, well....no thanks.

I know the couple you're talking about, but I don't know their names or their contact info. I guess one reason is besides their $1 bins, I tend to avoid all their other books as they seem to just make up prices out of thin air. $40 for Dawn #1, $20 for Dawn #4... these are just common books that came out during the 90's that can be found in other $1 bins. Don't get me wrong, but they are nice people. I just don't like their prices in the non $1 section.

I agree totally. The $5 and $10 and wall books are all priced a little... scattered. I did buy an item off their wall about 6 months ago because I talked him down to about half the price. Other than that I only buy the dollar books.
