I found Comics Now to very informative and a great read but at the same time its focus was very small and did not encompass the comic industry as a whole.

maybe if they will grow into a decent honest version of what wizard could have been.

Yeah, I'm gonna give Comics Now some time to grow. I know that it is a labor of love for the guys doing it at this time.

Yeah i got that from the front piece, so fair play to them for getting out there.

I think theres enough smart collectors out there that walked away from Wizard way long ago, but want to know the scoop still in printed form.

heres hoping.

CBG's a good mag, it covers many different areas of the comics community/lifestyle/world/whatever. It has been published in several forms for 25 years, with some serious experienced collectors and industry professionals on the staff. Even everyone's favorite dealer to hate has an article (usually a pretty good one actually, not about his farm or pottery collection more often than not). The price guide is mostly crap, but that's not why I buy it, but the mini articles on all of the price guide pages including issue notations for long-running series are cool.

I can't find my copy anywhere . . . :!:

the kids are claiming innocence . . . I think I got aggravated with it and put it down without thinking . . .

If anyone else can scan it in the meantime that would be cool . . . I will keep looking when I get back home . . .

Has any read comics foundry. Its the one with the tiger beat ish cover w/ Matt Fraction.

I picked it up because I am ahuge Fraction fan and there was small interviews with Grant Morrison about Final Crisis and Bendis on Secret Invasion. Also a All Star Batman and Robin drinking game that may kill you if you read more than 2 issues.

It was a real high quality mag all around, I recommend it.

When did Wizard start sucking so much? I quit reading it around 97 or so, and then just got a subscription around last year. Wow, it really sucks now! Remember when they used to have articles? And a semi-comprehensive price guide? Free stuff that came with it? Contests? More than 90 pages?
What happened?

Wizard started sucking a couple of months before #1 came out.

Can you believe they actually allocated this POS in the UK.

FFSAKE.

just cant win with these idiots.

I hate to stock it, but i would never say no as that would go against the whole point of having a customer base and serving their every need.

However Wizard and their hypemaster BS has always been a major contributing factor to why the industry has so many problems and now i cant even get the correct amount of copies of their crap.

Hey if you're running a store you gotta do what you gotta do.

However, it's just amazing people don't know that the CBG is out there; real comic book news.

Is it new or original thought? I for one am fed up with comic book news and it being passed off as journalism or creative under the wool of poorly researched interview or a 'review' that's really a synopsis.

Or rather, is it sweet? Who are some of the regular contributors?
CBG is older than dirt compared to Wizard.

Per Wiki:
Comics Buyer's Guide (ISSN 0745-4570) (CBG) is the second longest-running periodical reporting on the comic book industry (only the Dutch monthly Stripschrift, first published in February 1968, is running longer[citation needed]). It was founded in 1971 primarily as an advertising venue by Alan Light under the title The Buyer's Guide to Comics Fandom. In 1983 it was purchased by Krause Publications who hired the late Don Thompson and his wife Maggie, long-time fixtures in comics fandom, as editors. In July 2002 Krause was acquired by F+W Publications.

The Buyer's Guide to Comics Fandom (commonly referred to as "TBG") started as a monthly newspaper in a tabloid format in 1971. Its frequency was changed to twice-monthly with issue #17 in 1972, and then to weekly with issue #86 in July 1975. The title was changed to "Comics Buyer's Guide" (or CBG) when it was bought by Krause Publications, and changed its format with issue #1595 (June 2004) to a monthly squarebound magazine, with a price guide for contemporary comics among the new features intended to make the magazine more appealing to those with an avid interest in comic books as an investment in hopes this would enhance sales on news stands. This marketing strategy is also tied to the yearly publication of the Standard Catalog of Comic Books, produced in conjunction with Human Computing, the makers of the comic collectors’ software, ComicBase. In July 2005, the magazine began archiving past features at its CBGXtra.com service.

CBG has at times been noted for its lively letter column "Oh, So?", as well as columns by Peter David, Tony Isabella, catherine yronwode, Mark Evanier, John Jackson Miller, Bob Ingersoll, Heidi McDonald, Chuck Rozanski, Craig Shutt, Beau Smith, Andrew Smith and others. Cartoonists who have graced its pages over the years include Chuck Fiala, Jim Engel, Dan Vebber, Fred Hembeck, Mark Engblom, Brian Douglas Ahern, Chris Smigliano, Mark Martin, Batton Lash, Brian Hayes and others. For some years they reprinted installments of The Spirit comic strip by Will Eisner. The panel cartoon Last Kiss by John Lustig is among the longtime fixtures.

In 1992, the magazine spun off its distributor and retailer news into a separate periodical, Comics & Games Retailer. It has also awarded their annual Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Awards since 1982.
