What about Magnus and Solar?
Hi. I'm new to this forum, but a Valiant-fan from pre-Unity days, so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's been answered already.
I've noticed on the new Valiant site that Magnus, Robot Fighter and Solar, Man of the Atom aren't included in the line-up. I read on Wiki that a few years ago the rights reverted back to Western Publishing, which has since been acquired by Random House. How will this affect future reprint editions, especially Unity, which lean heavily on those characters. Hell, Solar gave birth to the Valiant U in the wake of Solar #0. Does Valiant Entertainment plan on reaquiring these characters? And what about Turok?
Anyway, I'm glad this line is coming back, despite these concern.

All the old stories can be collected and re-printed as is . . . with Magnus and Solar . . .PaulBell007 wrote:Hi. I'm new to this forum, but a Valiant-fan from pre-Unity days, so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's been answered already.

Apparently because they are stories that have already been told and are owned by VEI they can be used . . . no new stories can use Solar, Magnus or Turok at this time . . .
VEI does have the rights to Phil Selesky though . . .
Hope that helps . . and welcome to the board . .

I have to totally disagree about Turok . . .
I just don't see him as being needed at all . . .
Phil can always be Solar . . hell he could read some other superhero book from the 40's and have that character pop out of his head . . . Hey . . don't they own the destroyer ??
Magnus will be missed . . . but maybe in the future something can be worked out . . in the meantime we can just focus on the present . . .

VEI could use either the Destroyer or Erica Pierce, but the Destroyer kinda resembles Solar and I could see a potential lawsuit drama come into play. As for Erica, they could use her, but they'll need to come up with a heck of a story to get her to change her point of view about life.siren3-4 wrote:I have to totally disagree about Turok . . .

Let me put it like thissiren3-4 wrote:The mind is a powerful thing . . .ManofTheAtom wrote:Not really, no.siren3-4 wrote:Phil can always be Solar . . hell he could read some other superhero book from the 40's and have that character pop out of his head . . .
Yes, many, many, many countless characters could pop out of Phil's head, from Mickey Mouse to the Lone Ranger to Buck Rogers, but it doesn't mean that any of them can or should take Solar's place.
VEI could go through an entire catalogue of public domain characters looking for one that is "kindda like Solar" to replace Doctor Solar with, but it would not be the same, and readers would not abide by it.
They might as well reboot the universe and replace Solar with a public domain character they could control, or even an entirely original creation... but would readers accept it? No, not really.

I don't know why people just can't accept Phil . . .ManofTheAtom wrote:Let me put it like thissiren3-4 wrote:The mind is a powerful thing . . .ManofTheAtom wrote:Not really, no.siren3-4 wrote:Phil can always be Solar . . hell he could read some other superhero book from the 40's and have that character pop out of his head . . .

I'd be fine with it . . .
(I was just joking about the popping out of the head thing . . .

I'd be okay with accepting Phil for the short term. In the long run it might get... boring without Solar.siren3-4 wrote:I don't know why people just can't accept Phil . . .ManofTheAtom wrote:Let me put it like thissiren3-4 wrote:The mind is a powerful thing . . .ManofTheAtom wrote:Not really, no.siren3-4 wrote:Phil can always be Solar . . hell he could read some other superhero book from the 40's and have that character pop out of his head . . .
