I was reading this thread and decided to look through my collection and hoard and found 5 newstands that I never noticed before. All of which do not have different prices. Check them out, as they are below. I really don't think that these should be added to the collection list, but if they have price variant they should. Especially if we are going to add Destroy and Visitor vs Valiant Universe as they are also newstand editions.

Yup newsstand editions are a pain in the arse to find since most comic shops will not have them in their back issue bins. You will most likely encounter them at shows where dealers find some unique stock or something.mrwoogieman wrote:To be sure; you cannot generally find them in comic shops.Ben(inabox) wrote:It seems like the newsstand versions are the more difficult to find of these books?

Yup we should double check to confirm their existence and add them to the price variant newsstands for the 100% complete list.mrwoogieman wrote:Here is a list of other books which I surmise have price variant newsstands:
Bloodshot 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31
Magnus 46, 47 and 48
Solar 43, 44 and 45
X-O Manowar 41, 42 and 43.
My supposition is based on the fact that the direct versions of these books have cover prices of $2.25 and that their newsstand versions will be priced at $2.50.
I only have the BS 31 and XO 43 from this list; anyone else want to check their newsstand versions from this list?

I just checked and I have the XO 43 as well as Bloodshot 30 and 32 newsstand editions that are price variants.mrwoogieman wrote:Here is a list of other books which I surmise have price variant newsstands:

Yes, my list is incorrect. BS 32 and 33 should have newsstand price variants as well since the directs are $2.25 cover price.sonicdan wrote:I just checked and I have the XO 43 as well as Bloodshot 30 and 32 newsstand editions that are price variants.mrwoogieman wrote:Here is a list of other books which I surmise have price variant newsstands:

I will confirm the 33 since I have a newsstand of that one too.

Newsstands will be available generally 1 of 3 ways:Escaflown4 wrote:Yup newsstand editions are a pain in the arse to find since most comic shops will not have them in their back issue bins. 1. In the individual collections of people who bought them from the newsstand at the time of publication (and probably not in multiples.) This is the most likely source.
2. In "undistributed and/or remaindered stock" from newsstand dealers around the country that have been "warehoused". Believe it or not, these DO exist, and either never made it to the stands to begin with, or, when left unsold on the stands, never were "stripped" and claimed for credit. This is rather unlikely, but possible.
3. In dealers' stock who SUPPLEMENTED their direct market stock with newsstand stock that could be returned for credit. This is, obviously, the very least likely, but still possible.
Of course, another "option" is in store stock, but those would have had to go through one of the above options begin with, so that's redundant.
In any event, as the newsstand market lay dying across the nation in 1995, these books, like contemporary issues from Marvel, DC, etc., are of course going to be much rarer than their Direct Market counterparts (which is the opposite of the situation in 1977-1979.)

Heh, isn't it ironic that comics originally first started selling from the newsstands?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:

I think it's a small price to pay for consistency. Why should VvsVU 1 and 2 and Destroyer 0 get the special treatment? Either add them all to the list or take them out completely.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:I was thinking the same exact thing.....now that there's "lots more than 3"...mrwoogieman wrote:I have a feeling that adding these presumed 15 or so newsstand price variants to the equation is going to have a backlash on the prices of the Vis v Val U 1 and 2 and the Destroyer 0 books.

And, even more ironically....I believe it is newsstands....well, a variation thereof....that can save comics as a viable artform into the 21st century....Escaflown4 wrote:Heh, isn't it ironic that comics originally first started selling from the newsstands?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:

Unfortunately, it's been a little hard getting anyone to agree with me yet....
Re: Valiant Newsstand Edition Question
Greg mentions different paper stock and different price.Escaflown4 wrote:So what sets them apart to the point where only the Visitor vs Valiant Universe and Destroyer #0 gets included in the list to get books for 100% completion?
Good find. Price variants are recognized as variants. Is it because of the price change on the cover? If so, how come this didn't get included?

My Bloodshot 33 newsstand is an anomaly. It is 2.25 and thus not a price variant. If yours is 2.50 we really are onto something.mrwoogieman wrote:I will confirm the 33 since I have a newsstand of that one too.
Until we find more early newsstands I only count four new price variants (of which I am missing most

Yea we will need to get confirmation on which newsstand issues are price variants. I'm pretty sure this is what most people are interested in.magnusr wrote:My Bloodshot 33 newsstand is an anomaly. Dan confirmed Bloodshot 30 and 32, the other potential ones we have not even yet confirmed that they exist as newsstand editions.mrwoogieman wrote:Here is the potential list:

I've also noticed that the comic "packs" they sell at Toys R Us & at dollar stores many times will have newsstand versions for some reason.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Newsstands will be available generally 1 of 3 ways:Escaflown4 wrote:Yup newsstand editions are a pain in the arse to find since most comic shops will not have them in their back issue bins. My best luck at finding these has come at garage sales & flea markets.

I didn't give a thorough enough look at potential candidates, it seems:magnusr wrote:Dan confirmed Bloodshot 30 and 32, the other potential ones we have not even yet confirmed that they exist as newsstand editions.mrwoogieman wrote:Here is the potential list:

In addition to the above list,
Magnus 50, 51, 52, 53 and 54 all have $2.25 direct sales cover prices. (I was thrown off the trail because Magnus 49 has a $2.50 direct sales cover price for whatever reason). So, if anyone has newsstand versions of Magnus 50-54, they should check them to see if they have $2.50 cover prices instead of $2.25.
