Bringing this thread back to where it started...
Here is what I posted over on Newsarama about Dynamic Forces being VIP:
This is all VERY interesting stuff. I personally hope that Valiant Entertainment comes up with the trademarks as they already own the copyrights. That is the only way that I can see the real Valiant characters that I enjoyed reading back in the the '90s again.
No offense to VIP, but there is no way in hell I am going to buy a Harbinger book unless it has Zeph, Sting, Flamingo, etc in it. The same with Ninjak, Eternal Warrior, Rai & the Future Force and Bloodshot. I am not buying any of these books unless they contain the versions fo the characters from back in the day - not new concepts with the same name.
Personally, I could care less about Punx, Deathmate or the Outcast. They were not part of the regular Valiant continuity so they really would not be missed in my opinion.
I believe Secret Weapons is owned by George Lucas now so that trademark is a moot point.
As far as Dynamic Forces being VIP I have some more interesting stuff to add.
Does anyone remember this?

It was SUPPOSED to be released in December 2005, but mysteriously was not... It is listed on Dynamic Forces website as sold out.
http://www.dynamicforces.com/htmlfiles/p-C103704.html
Anyhoo - Bob Layton was asked on his website why it was never released. His reply was:
"Since the time I was initially contacted by Dynamic Forces about doing the Solar Litho, I have had absolutely no correspondence from them...whatsoever!
My past experiences with them were no good and this current one seems to be no exception to that unfortunate reality. I really didn't want to do anything for them, but my agent was very persuasive and assured me that they would act honorably this time around.
Oh, well...
On the good side, they did pay me for my services, so what they do with the art after I'm done is not my business. But I think some common courtesy on their part would have been nice. I was never informed by them that they had cancelled the Solar print...or given an explanation as to why it was discontinued. To this day, I have no idea what precipitated that decision by D.F."
Here is a link to his full response on his letters page:
http://www.boblayton.com/Archive/May%20 ... rspage.htm
I have a thought as to why the lithograph was cancelled. It contained characters that are copyrighted by Valiant Entertainment - notably Erica Pierce a.k.a Mothergod and Geoff McHenry a.k.a. the current day Geomancer. I also believe the alter ego of Solar Man of the Atom - Phil Seleski - was a Valiant only character and did not appear in the original Gold Key books. The lithograph was supposed to be base on the Gold Key character.
I believe this was Dynamic Force's (in my opinion also VIP) attempt to push the envelope and see how far that VEI would go to allow use of their trademarks and copyrights. If VEI did not fight the usage of their images then it would also give VIP more ammunition in their legal battle against VEI for the disputed trademarks. If they do not care about characters that they CLEARLY own all the rights to then why would they care about a few trademarks that are in dispute, right?
Bear in mind that this is all MY opinion and I have no connection at all to VEI or VIP nor am I a lawyer. I am just a a big fan of the original Valiant characters and want to see them in print again in their original form. Not the newly envisioned versions from the VIP ashcan.
