I don't know where to put this. My local comic store called Brave New World is a total rip off. I needed some money bad, so I went there to sell a few comics like the Punisher Mini and some other rare stuff I have. The guy took the stack of books I gave him and he weighed it. He tried to give me $2.80 for a stack of books that was worth something like $60.00. He tries to tell me that nothing made after 1980 is worth money so he only gives the paper recycling weight for the books. This is the biggest scam I think I have ever seen. Has anyone else ever heard of this perverse practice with comics?

I did not sell the books and the only reason I didn't drop an F bomb or two is because that shop is the only one nearby that is carrying the Harbinger HC. I hate the guy though. People like that have no respect for the comics or the fans, it is all about money.

I don't know if this sounds out of order to me (from a business perspective not accounting to his manners which obviously I can't judge). Obviously there are some books from that era in question that have some value but these are exceptions. To get $60 from a LCS owner for relatively modern books may sound like an easy task but I'd suggest it isn't.

Obviously this comes down to what a 'stack' implies, but you can bring in multiple long boxes from that era of comics and now get $60 for it.

Unless you went to Brave New World and he tries to tell you there not worth 5 bucks in recycled paper.....

Too bad you're not on the East Coast. The LCS I go to, Brave New Worlds, is very nice. Although I've never tried selling them comics.

Something to keep in mind. If you're selling to retailer, don't expect to get what they're "worth" because the retailer needs to charge more than he paid in order to make a profit. Although $3 opposed to $60 is a big difference.

Were you able to sell them somewhere else and for how much?

There's a comic shop by me (coughDavenportIowacough) and the guy who owns the shop always whips out the newest Overstreet to check prices on EVERY issue and will expect you to pay that price even though the comic is in every other store's quarter or fifty cent bins. It's crazy.

PLUS, and this is what really drives me nutty, he has three different places in the store where you have to check for the same issue. Why not just put them all in the same place and save your customers some time and aggravation??

Guys, I hear your pain, but try finding extensive back issues outside of the big 2 in the second biggest city in the UK. I imagine London is taken care of, but the back issues in stores here are generally painfully inadequate.
