I'm sure it's well over $100K by now.greg wrote:Any estimate on the amount you've spent on Ebay all total?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:greg wrote:Well, this is my 10th year on there.8.5 for me.
But no one should feel bad, I have some serious advantages over a lot of guys that I don't take for granted. I own the house. Property tax is (quite literally) grandfathered in with Prop 13. It's just me and the dogs. I don't have expensive tastes (other than comics.)
Comics (and coins) is just what I spend my money on. Some guys spend their money on hot girls, some guys spend their money on hot cars....neither of which offers a good rate of return, by the way

I spend my money on comics.
That averages out to about $12K a year, which isn't bad, all things considered.
I think I spent $20K on eBay last year.

I'd guess my numbers are about 25% of yours... definitely under 50%.
I joined Ebay about 3 months after I got married... so I've never been "single" and "Ebaying".
(That's probably a good thing... there is at least some sanity to what I buy
given that I've got to have some accountability to where all that money is going.)
I was thinking the other day that I could probably live off my collection
for a year if I were to lose my job or somehow be forced to sell everything.
Knowing that, I'm happy to just keep everything 'as is' and consider it a contingency plan.
My wife is finally done with her schooling (got her MBA last May), so we could probably get by
for a couple of years with her working and me Ebaying full time.
(Again, only a contingency plan... I'm not planning to be unemployed anytime soon,
but it's good to have a "What if" planned out.)

Unless hot cars = classic antiques. Now those can go for a pretty penny. But throughout my ebay days, I doubt I've ever spent close to $20k.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:

What irks me is that the X-O books were bid up & the more desirable Harbinger 2 9.8 ended for about $55. Obviously, I missed the auction on that one.cobra_commander wrote:Oh come on.... X-O #5 9.8...$80?!

But I've never had the $$$ to buy an antique car, much less properly care for it.

X-O 1 has been graded many, many times in 9.8. X-O 5 not so much. Obviously, the first issue shows up on E-bay much more in 9.8 than does issue 5. The bid is for the grade as much as it is for the book.chainnball wrote:Ya what the hell?XO 5 does $80 in a 9.8, but XO 1 in 9.8 does $38???
I just don't get it.
That said, I wasn't the winner.

Guys...
$80 for X-o 5 is not ridiculous. That issue is hard to get in 9.8 due to the red solid cover. The cover shows every little flaw or imperfection. To tell you the truth I'm really surprised that there are as many as there are in 9.8 at this stage in the game.
If I remember correctly it has a smaller print run than #1 and people take care of the following issues like red headed step children.
Seriously... I guess I'm the only moron that would pay $80 for an X-O 5. Well at least I would say that that it is not OBSESSIVE like the 180.00 for a rai 4 or the 250.00 for rai 3's.
oh yea... X-O 1's.... TONS of 9.8s...
just my opinion
Rico

Yes Rico is totally right, X-O 1 is a lot easier to get in 9.8. More people slab a #1 because its a 1st issue...and it should definitely go for less than a #5 in 9.8 because its a lot more readily available.Ricomortis wrote:Guys...

But $80 for ANY copy of #5 is really...just paying too much. You're paying $80 for an 80 cent book. I don't want to call this book cr@p because this cover was what made me buy my first VALIANT book but seriously...its not a collectible. This to me is just a case of having more money than sense.
Tell you what, do this a few more times and you could've bought yourself an IM #1 in 8.5! Heck 2 of these books at this price is the equivalent of a Unity Red in 9.8?!

Well to be honest... I could care less about IM #1 in any condition. <watches for flying objects>
I've stated here numerous times that Valiant is my main focus and when sotu was here along with aug, I don't think anyone would be winning these auctions. lol
As for issue number 5... who said anything about collectibility? X-O is bad *SQUEE* *SQUEE*, and when I buy things (because I am WAY anal and want the best possible copies) I am buying them to keep forever & not to sell. I kinda of see it like greg... but a little further out.
