Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Wow. Can't believe I missed that one. You must be p!ssed you got sniped by a buck...tell you what I am really p!ssed about the Rai #4....REALLY p!ssedJay Tomio wrote:Last week. High bid was $208 and change I think - basically a buck over mine, because I made a *SQUEE* bid. One of the best centered I have seen.cobra_commander wrote:there was a rai 3 9.8 for sale recently?Jay Tomio wrote:.Last week, somebody sniped me in the last 5 seconds right after I honorably sniped Maggy for a RA#3 9.8.this is same as the rai #3 9.8 auction befoe...10 bucks says I get a second chance offer in a few days

Yeah I hate getting over confident in an auction. If it was a Saturday or Sunday that book would've been mine.Jay Tomio wrote:I'm *SQUEE* because I was over confident about it. I made a lame bid and got beat - I usually not get clipped like that in an auction I really want to win that I'm actually up for (I don't use a snipe program).
The#4 doesn't bother me as much (as can be seen I forgot about it) - I don't know if the Census agrees with me but the #4 isn't as high on my list as another#3 - which is just one of my favorite books ever.

I could not ebay properly without using a snipe service.greg wrote:http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=602cobra_commander wrote:Right. now not only did I not win...Zero didn't win...d-lite didn't win...some guy f@cking sniped me because I'm on the other side of the world sleeping...
I love it as a buyer and a seller. It keeps things exciting.

As seller you just have to make your opening bid something you can live with if it sells for that. Live by the sword . . .

Or you just put in a monster bid on e snipe?greg wrote:Well, this is my 10th year on there.cobra_commander wrote:I'm signing up for this E snipe...greg wrote:http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=602cobra_commander wrote:Right. now not only did I not win...Zero didn't win...d-lite didn't win...some guy f@cking sniped me because I'm on the other side of the world sleeping...

I think ESnipe.com was one of the best ones when I started using it in 2004...
Ebay may have bought one of the others, and there may be others that are cheaper
or have more features than ESnipe.com. I just got hooked and haven't changed.
(I can "right-click" in any auction on Ebay and set my ESnipe.com bid amount.)

That actually sounds pretty handy. I liked the fact that ebay owned auctionsnipe because then I didn't feel like I am giving out my ebay info to another company.greg wrote:I think ESnipe.com was one of the best ones when I started using it in 2004...

I will have to check the fees and features of ESnipe.
Thanks Greg

I'm sure it's well over $100K by now.greg wrote:Any estimate on the amount you've spent on Ebay all total?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:greg wrote:Well, this is my 10th year on there.8.5 for me.
But no one should feel bad, I have some serious advantages over a lot of guys that I don't take for granted. I own the house. Property tax is (quite literally) grandfathered in with Prop 13. It's just me and the dogs. I don't have expensive tastes (other than comics.)
Comics (and coins) is just what I spend my money on. Some guys spend their money on hot girls, some guys spend their money on hot cars....neither of which offers a good rate of return, by the way

I spend my money on comics.
That averages out to about $12K a year, which isn't bad, all things considered.
I think I spent $20K on eBay last year.

I'd guess my numbers are about 25% of yours... definitely under 50%.
I joined Ebay about 3 months after I got married... so I've never been "single" and "Ebaying".
(That's probably a good thing... there is at least some sanity to what I buy
given that I've got to have some accountability to where all that money is going.)
I was thinking the other day that I could probably live off my collection
for a year if I were to lose my job or somehow be forced to sell everything.
Knowing that, I'm happy to just keep everything 'as is' and consider it a contingency plan.
My wife is finally done with her schooling (got her MBA last May), so we could probably get by
for a couple of years with her working and me Ebaying full time.
(Again, only a contingency plan... I'm not planning to be unemployed anytime soon,
but it's good to have a "What if" planned out.)

Unless hot cars = classic antiques. Now those can go for a pretty penny. But throughout my ebay days, I doubt I've ever spent close to $20k.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:
