Have you tried Witchhunter. Not the problem of recognisable characters written badly, just a badly, very badly, written/produced comic*.Chiclo wrote:Just tonight, I was trying to read some of the Phoenix Resurrection books from Ultraverse after Marvel bought them out.
It's rare that I put a book down without finishing it, particularly one involving so many characters with whom I am already familiar, but this was almost painful.
I would have to say my new favourite Malibu character is Breed, but he's Bravura.
*For comic read steaming pile of poo.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Thanks to you guys (yet again) I've been quietly putting together an Ultraverse Universe.
Whenever I get bitten by this bug, I make sure that I maintain the goal of the whole thing:
To put together the collection in the highest grade possible for as cheap as possible. This is how I put together my Whacko run.... When all is said and done I put that whole run together for about .22 cents an issue and all are in collectible grade (blanket term I'm coining to describe books that are generally VF+ or higher for moderns). I did the same thing with Captain Marvel, but of course that run cost me a little bit more than .22 a book.
That stinking Night Man movie thing is a little tough to come by....

I believe that I have seen a couple but the point is.... WHY ? Why would you CGC an ULTRAVERSE comic ? I am sure there are some who may want one but I wouldnt spend the postage on one. I have quite a few 'cgc' grade Ultraverse books but I would never get them CGC'ed. It is not the same as getting a quality Marvel or DC book graded. Ultraverse is not throught of very highly from what I have seen, there is only a cool few of us that collect these books with a passion.

I've seen a few CGCed hologram covers over the last few months on Ebay. The 9.8s were going for about $25-30 ... I thought about it but common sense prevailed.
Mycomicshop has had that Flood Relief comic CGC 9.6 on sale for about 300 years now. I think they want $30 for it; I saw the original art for the cover sell for $70 last year.

At this point, I have an amassment of Malibu, not so much a collection. The reason I say amassment is because I have not sat down and inventoried what I do - and more importantly do not - have at this point. I even have several variants, like a Bravura 1/2 Platinum or Silver or whatever it's classified as.

I guess I just wasn't looking.Chiclo wrote:It occurred to me a little while back, I don't think I have ever seen a picture or heard someone mention having a CGC'd Malibu comic.
Is that why?

The ONLY Malibu books I need are the following:leonmallett wrote:I have been collecting the Ultraverse and Malibu-Protectors/Genesis, but not Bravura. Does that put me in the cool collectors camp?

Genesis 0 (red foil)
Genesis Ashcan 0
Gravestone 8

If it's the complete package, I would say anything less than $10 is pretty good. It originally cost $19.95 (I think).Chiclo wrote:What about the Firearm video?
What is a good price to pay for that?
I hate to derail this thread, but I can't find an analogue for this site for Malibu and Malibu is starting to dominate more of my attention.

I think you are safe on the Gravestone - I am sure it is only 1-7. No dupes I am afraid, and mine are mostly direct editions (I think), so I haven't even thought about pursuing a full set of newstands and direct retail copies...Knightt wrote:The ONLY Malibu books I need are the following:leonmallett wrote:I have been collecting the Ultraverse and Malibu-Protectors/Genesis, but not Bravura.
