Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

Favorite Malibu Ultraverse characters?

Post by Fatal Rose »

There a few I really enjoyed reading but as far as favorites go..... I would have to say:
1. Solitaire
Such a cool character, the opening fight scene in issue number six was insane!
2. Eliminator
He is ok, some reason I enjoy his books.

I am still reading through a lot of malibu so I may start to like more or hate the ones above after reading more of there books. Haha I am having a blast catching up on all these dead universes. VALIANT is still the best in my opinon though (best ever if you ask me).

I probably have to say Rune, because with the exception of a few of the early issues, I haven't read any other Ultraverse books!

Kind of embarassing considering I have almost a complete set of Ultraverse with it's many variants, but I just haven't had the time or inclination. :(

I really liked Prime. Didn't care a whole lot for any of the others actually.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Prime was actually pretty good ... at first. There was a point about halfway through the first series where it became terrifyingly bad. Overnight.

I always liked Sludge and Rune, and Freex had its moments (that one actually got better as it went along).

I really liked Juggernaut in the All New Exiles.

Does that count?

I just got through reading the first 15 issues of The Solution of which I enjoyed. I am currently reading Sludge and liking it. Read Solitaire when it came out and liked him also :thumb:

I remember the first year or so of Ultraverse books being pretty good across the board. After that I haven't read much.

For me it is:
1. Sludge
2. Hardcase
3. Prime

There were some great concepts and initially a quite cohesive uinverse, but along the way it lost direction and became 'Marvel lite'. Has MOTA done that one already?

I liked Hardcase also but the only thing that bothered me about that story was his costume and the way he got around. I thought he needed a vehicle or maybe if they made him fly but he could just jump really far :( :thumb:

I quite liked the jumping thing (as ridiculous as it was!), as a way to further differntiate him from Prime (although it made him closer to wonder Man in the process  ), but also as a nod of the head to how Superman travelled originally. :thumb:

I'd agree, but the 6 panel cover thingy on issues 1-6 didn't really work for me. recently read 1-12 (and double feature) in the course of a couple of days - what a great series! Shame about the assymetrical costume however.

3) Mantra was one of those books with an intresting concept a macho male
warrior's stuck in the body of a beautiful single mother.

2) Ultraforce-a simple concept that still works plus having Prerez on the first issues didn't hurt either.

1) Firearm-the best written Ultraverse book period.
I also have the limited edition VHS of the live action 30 minute preview that carries into the series' first arc.

Did you try the Solution or Strangers - both were reads that rewarded going through the run, as did Firearm, Hardcase and Freex for that matter.

AGREED...

I had always really liked Firearm, guy had no powers yet kicked some Ultra butt !!!

Hardcase and The Solution were another of my favorites.

Overall I thought the continuity within the Ultraverse was pretty good and for a 'beginner universe'. I was glad to get onboard from the begining and it felt pretty fresh but with some old concepts put into the mix making it familiar. It was just a 'fun' time and in a world of anti-heroes at the time, it was something I needed and Ultraverse was there.

Just tonight, I was trying to read some of the Phoenix Resurrection books from Ultraverse after Marvel bought them out.

It's rare that I put a book down without finishing it, particularly one involving so many characters with whom I am already familiar, but this was almost painful.

I would have to say my new favourite Malibu character is Breed, but he's Bravura.
