With DC I try to just follow good writers. I liked Brad Meltzer's Identity Crisis and so I will be picking up the new JLA, and Morrison coming to Batman should be great.IMJ wrote: Coincidentally, this is why I don't really read DC.... I'd have no idea what the hell is going on, & even their main characters have just become uninteresting. Green Lanter, however, is a great read....
I like Green Lantern also.

I'm definitely enjoying 52 more than Civil War. Just seems like there's more going on in 52, a LOT more..siren3-4 wrote:Is anyone else really enjoying 52 ?
I am more of a Marvel fan (and am loving Civil War 100 times more than Infinite Crisis) but I really like what they are doing so far.
I have to give props . .

woops . . I think I just gave the clap . . .
I will try and check it out again... this thing is supposed to go for 52 weeks right ?
Well, maybe I will get to it once I finish Avengers vol 1, 2, 3... still it's DC and the only thing I read from DC is Batman, Warlord and oh wait, what else is there in DC that doesnt make me laugh ?
The first few issues left me feeling like I was reading the first LOTR book when I was a kid as in 'come on would something DIE already' ?

I never used to buy any DC Comics either but 52 is ok and All star superman you have to check out (and I hate superman comics)
52 is basically a comic with 2 or 3 mini stories each week on certain characters. Some suck, some are good.
And because of this and the way its written there's a more going on in it. So whereas it takes me about 2 mins to read Civil War. It takes about 15 or 20 mins to read 52.

I still lean toward Civil War (I think I just care about the characters more because I know them better) but I look forward to every issue of 52.cobra_commander wrote:

I can't get past my dislike for some charaters though. I never liked Flash in any incarnation. I enjoyed Identity Crisis and Green Arrow was a pretty good read.
Superman just gets on my nerves, I don't know why. Like a thin splinter you can't get out from under your fingernail he just annoys me sometimes.
Batman was really the only DC book I could read on a constant basis. Recently I have liked Green Lantern and the Corps but most other DC books just fell by the wayside.
Silly as it sounds... it feels like Marvel characters are more based in 'reality' (yeah comic books based in reality) of sorts. No made up cities but NYC and other places. It seems to me that DC has a slew of TOTALLY hokey characters, not that Marvel does not but the mainstay characters are pretty solid in my mind.
Even reading the Avengers, starting off with issue #1 and going up, while the writing IS very hokey... it was due to the time in which it was written but as we progress things get more serious. DC was incredibly hokey during early issues of Batman and Superman and then never broke past that glass ceiling of 'hokey' and have remained there ever since. The exception to the rule for me is Batman which to me reads in its own fashion and can be independant from the rest of the DC universe.
I dunno, I have always been more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan... always.

52 does get hokey at times to be honest with you.Knightt wrote: It seems to me that DC has a slew of TOTALLY hokey characters, not that Marvel does not but the mainstay characters are pretty solid in my mind.
All star superman, and the new justice league comic, written by the same guy that wrote identity crisis is not, you should check those out for sure.

Brad Meltzer is the only reason I have interest in the new JLA. I have the issues out now but I am waiting for a few months to read them. (I like a big dose of story)cobra_commander wrote:52 does get hokey at times to be honest with you.Knightt wrote: It seems to me that DC has a slew of TOTALLY hokey characters, not that Marvel does not but the mainstay characters are pretty solid in my mind.

I agree. I don't know why but for some reason you can relate to Marvel Characters in a way that just doesn't fit with DC characters.Knightt wrote:Silly as it sounds... it feels like Marvel characters are more based in 'reality' (yeah comic books based in reality) of sorts.
Same thing goes for Valiant characters. You just have to love them. That's why were are all here.

Maybe it's because that in the Marvel Universe, the "heros" are treated more like they would in the real world: from respect that covers hidden fears (Captain America, the Avengers) to outright disgust and hatred (mutants.) In the DC-verse, the heros are PUBLICALLY heros, with statues and parades and the like.
Just putting that out there.....

Jay Tomio wrote:I have enjoyed both crossovers, but definitely prefer DC (which has in my mind surpassed Marvel's incredible edge they held in the 80's and 90's over DC).
Clones are just *SQUEE* stupid, I wish somebody would get that through their head (as obviously the Spiderman Clone debacle didn't).
It's typical Marvel the last few years: Lets throw ourselves into something (that may indeed be a good idea) and shower in the buzz and profit, and diminish what was really legitimate interest by throwing in a damn clone - pure rubbish. Big ideas, that don't seem to have any thought behind them extending past the moment - where DC's crossover (From Identity Crisis, Infintie Crisis, OYL, and 52) is just unfolding like tapestry - layers, upon layers of planning just coming into fruition (with some admittedly ridiculous moments).
One is just flash and letting people claim their extreme poltical ideaologies (last thing I ant to hear us self-righteous and self-important conservatives and naive to the point of lunacy liberals sharing theire late night talk show derived knowledge of politics and world affairs on comic book messagebaords) in conservations on internet messageboards and one is class comic book story-telling IMHO.
While I definitely enjoy comics that touch us (the reader) on (I'm not an escapist reader - in fact I have disdain for works that don't attempt to achieve any other effect) on issues that are important and conflicting, I like the work to make a stand on its own and cause discussion - not just throwing a hot topic out there to hide their story is turning into garbage.
God...clones!
I like the tie-in issues - and I think this was a good idea, but the application of said idea leaves something to be desired in the main books

This should be in an email to Joe Quesada.

Wow. Very true. They have another dimension to them thats more relatable. The DC Hereos lack that...slym2none wrote:Maybe it's because that in the Marvel Universe, the "heros" are treated more like they would in the real world: from respect that covers hidden fears (Captain America, the Avengers) to outright disgust and hatred (mutants.) thanks Jay!Jay Tomio wrote:The story doesn't really make sense unless you read them all (I thought I stated that but perhaps you may just want to collect Adam Strange appearances?) but here are the issues - Week 5, Week 7, Week 8, Week 9, Week 16, week 17, Week 19. There is also some explanations to why they are in their situations in Weeks 3 and 4.
As stated before - they are mixed in with other storylines (with the characters mentioned in my previous poat) in each issue - no issue is really dedicated to a single storyline them.
Hope that helps.

Sure thing genius. Whatever you say. I'm sure you got the biggest brain in the whole world. Why don't you PM me and let me know what Podunk University you went to and how much money you're pulling down now and we'll see who's outsmarted who. whoa guys... before this gets out of hand, lets just sit back for a minute and let things cool down. Both of you say 'sorry' shake hands and go back to your corners. This is a good thread and I would hate to see it thrown into TO.
Deal ?
