Curious....
as to how many members here think they have some high grade pre-unity/ variant Valiants that could be sent into CGC but just aren't goint to for whatever reason.
Magnus brings up an interesting point...
How many of you seriously think you don't own one HG valiant worth sending in to cgc?

My personal collection is teeming with high-grade examples of virtually every pre-unity and Valiant variant. I already know they're high grade, I don't need CGC to confirm what I already know for $15 a pop...Ricomortis wrote:as to how many members here think they have some high grade pre-unity/ variant Valiants that could be sent into CGC but just aren't goint to for whatever reason.

Interesting question Rico.....I was planning on submitting some Valiant/accliam books to CGC when I was in SDCC....I changed my mind.Ricomortis wrote:as to how many members here think they have some high grade pre-unity/ variant Valiants that could be sent into CGC but just aren't goint to for whatever reason.

I have only submitted a few books myself but have purchased many of them off Ebay and a few at shows. I don't know why I'm so reluctant in doing it. I brought Shadowman #2 GBU variant & SM #16 GLOW and a few Harbinger #1's but something pulled me from NOT doing it.

I have a few random copies I'm sure would hit at least 9.4, and I have two really cherry copies of Rai #0, 9.8 to 9.9 possibly, but I am content to think that my grade is good enough. Only if I were going to sell these would I think about grading them, and that's not gonna happen.

lol...I don't trust the mail.
I think that is why CGC tells you to package them the best you can. Also Jedi that is why they make you send it registered with insurance. Not sure if you know this but if it is registered the comics can NOT be tampered with without tearing into the seals. Also, the postal service puts your package under lock and key EVERYNIGHT until it arrives at its destination.
Back on Topic...
I have sent maybe 12-15 submissions with 6 valiants each time. Zilch problems.
I still have about 40 nm/m valiants to send in and a short box full of nm+ pre-unities that I am not sure I am sending in or not.
I also have tons of nm and little nm- and vf/nm that obviously won't be sent in.

The wait right now is less than 2 months. They alway get behind in the beginning and middle of the year due to events and REALLY catch up latter part of the year.
I send them in about once a month so I am at least getting something for x-mas every month.

Re: Curious....
I think the biggest thing holding me back from submitting them is that I haven't done so in the past and would be really disheartened if what I thought was a 9.6+ came back much lower than expected. For the time being I'm happy to let people who know what to look for send in copies and buy those copies if I can get them at a decent price. I also buy a lot of 9.4 and under CGC books because at least slabbed they aren’t going to drop any further, and if I can get them for around the cost of grading, it saves me the time and effort of sending in my own books and being unsure of how they’d grade out.Ricomortis wrote:How many of you seriously think you don't own one HG valiant worth sending in to cgc?

I'm with slym here (and agree with Knight's comments too). It just seems an injustice to me for comics that I care about to be encased in plastic where I couldn't even get to them! If I wanted to sell a particular book and wanted to get the most I could for it, I'd think about having it graded. Otherwise, I don't need to pay someone to tell me what I already know about my comics.slym2none wrote:I have a few random copies I'm sure would hit at least 9.4, and I have two really cherry copies of Rai #0, 9.8 to 9.9 possibly, but I am content to think that my grade is good enough. The only exception to that is a copy of GI Joe #1 I have. I think it would grade around 9.6 and it would make it a good display item on my GI Joe shelf.

Yes.. I guess everyone has their reasons for or against. Alot of folks here and other places seem content that they have high grade books and they know it. I'll tell you why.... because alot of these people would be surprised how hard it exactly is to get a cgc 9.8 valiant. People aren't honest with themselves when they look over their own books to grade. You can ask ANYONE who submits to CGC about how you have to be TOTALLY honest or you are going to be way disappointed.

I have extra lower grade copies to read, re-read, etc. but the collector in me wants the best of what I consider the best of my comic collecting career.(pre-unity valiants)
don't mind me... my crack dealer must have juiced my last batch.

I've got a short box of potential 9.8's and a few Magnus 1's that I think are 9.9 or 10. Most of my Valiants I bought from local collectors here in seattle who where EXTREMELY ANAL collectors. Almost all of my #1's where still in the oriiginal 10/12 packs the way they were shipped from Diamond. From there they went into Mylites.
Once you've got a dozen or so 9.6's and 9.8's it's not tough to tell the differences between the two. The only book I've sold ungraded that got graded thought was 9.8 Unity Red came back by Boda a 9.6.
As Greg's explained a few times in the past. That 9.6's can be the verge of being a 9.8 or on the low end and nearly a 9.4. I feel good I've got a load of 9.8's ungraded but no urgency to get them slabbed atm.

I just feel comics are meant to be read and slabbing them is an injustice. Of course, I'm very careful with my comics and keep them bagged and boarded and the more valuable ones in mylites. But if I pull out one of my favorite stories and in the process of reading it I knock it down from a 9.6 to a 9.4, I don't really care. It's MINE and it always will be mine. The value to me isn't what I could sell it for - the value is completely intrinsic. A dollar amount associated with it is just a little extra icing on the cake.

And that is a perfectly legitamate way to be. If everyone was slab-happy like me no one could tell me what happend in the latest issue of any given comic.Heath wrote:I just feel comics are meant to be read and slabbing them is an injustice. Seriously, I like to read my comics but I love those 9.something CGC slabs too.

That is the REASON I get them slabbed, because they were worth (story) of being enshrined and kept for ever.
