VH2 Recommendations
Hello,
My apologies if this is not the right board to post this on. I'm interested in reading through VH2, but would prefer to skip anything that's not considered very good. I know opinions seem to be mixed - any recommendations on what the top titles are to read?

What else was there?

Re: VH2 Recommendations
Was the Darque one shot and limited series good? I like the artist.

All those plus Quantum and Woody.ManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 11:54 amBloodshot, the Solar one-shots and mini, the Eternal Warriors and Turok quarterlies, Trinity Angels.Darke wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:02 am Hello,

I think some of the Darque and Shadowman stuff is really good, give it a shot.
I haven't read most of these since they came out, there's some good stuff though, I'd try anything that looks cool to you with an open mind. You might find something good everyone else has forgotten about.

Re: VH2 Recommendations
It was okay, for what it was.
Quantum & Woody, meh. I could live without it, heh. It is the antithesis of VALIANT.

I thought so, yeah. It wasn't quite VALIANT's Master Darque, it was Master Darque by way of DC's Constantine, but the mini and one shot were good.Darke wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 12:25 pm Was the Darque one shot and limited series good? I like the artist.

Right on, looks cool I forgot it was a big crossover.ManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:01 pmIt was okay, for what it was.

I get what you're saying about Q&W. At the time I thought it was an entertaining series, haven't re-read it though. I agree it's not a VALIANT style book. VH2 is all over the board and for the most part not very VALIANT to me.
Even though I think there's some cool stuff in the VH2 Shadowman stuff, overall I also don't think it's very VALIANT. Deadside can be a fun fantasy concept to play with on it's own, but doesn't fit in Valiant.

Indeed. It could have, but likely not the way it was.Ryan wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:09 pmRight on, looks cool I forgot it was a big crossover.ManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:01 pmIt was okay, for what it was.

Remember, the first four issues by Ennis and Wood were developed to be published as part of VH 1, long before there was a VALIANT.
They really intended for Jack to have died when he jumped off the building in issue 43. They changed it to Tommy Lee Bones killing him with his own saxophone after VH 2 came about.

According to Bob Hall interviews on youtube, Acclaim wanted Bob to make Shadowman an African-American, instead of the mixed Creole that Jack was. I assume for the video game. So as a way to do what they wanted, he sent Jack off the building and said they can do whatever they wanted with him from there. He says he had a plan that could save him and a plan with what to do if he went splat. He's still floating thoughManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:23 pm Indeed. Jack jumping off the building when he is not supposed to die until 1997 is the kind of thing Van Lente's Timewalker would tackle. Indeed, Ivar would be the one most likely to prevent that paradox.Ryan wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:30 pmAccording to Bob Hall interviews on youtube, Acclaim wanted Bob to make Shadowman an African-American, instead of the mixed Creole that Jack was. I think you're on to something. Bob was also the main writer for the original Timewalker seriesManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 1:39 pmJack jumping off the building when he is not supposed to die until 1997 is the kind of thing Van Lente's Timewalker would tackle.
