Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Comics Of Any Era
Maybe the same thing can happen to that Flamingo cover by EL for Harbinger #7.
Not a key, AFAIK, but it is simply beautiful, and a must in every VEI collector's list. Everytime I come across it, I just look at it for more than what is normal.
If the movies pick up, and Charlene has a brand new fanbase, I can see this book being chased. Not that many, either way (I think) - this was one of those store incentive variants.

I guess the Dell'Otto variant of Amazing Spider-Man 667 is hard to find. Asking price is $12,500 OBO. A quick check shows no other copies on eBay, either live or closed.

Beyond ridiculous... yes, it's hard to find, but you can probably commission a 24"×36" unique oil painting of that cover by the original artist for $12,500. There's no way the 2nd most expensive Spider-man comic, after Amazing Fantasy #15, should have #667 in the conversation. About 98% overpriced... $250 would make more sense.StarBrand wrote:I guess the Dell'Otto variant of Amazing Spider-Man 667 is hard to find. Asking price is $12,500 OBO. This is easily the most dangerous "investment" in comics possible, with almost zero upside. What is the goal? Sell for $20,000? It's a worthless book in a variant wrapper. This type of book is everything wrong with current comics... times ten.
It is the Enron of comics.

Ya and the cheap prick doesn't even offer free shipping, as if his deluded belief justifies this comic has value anywhere near what he's asking. I had a long debate with the fool that had the Maxx 1/2 prototype books (red and blue), that was asking 20k for a book that maybe 15-20 people would even care for.greg wrote:Beyond ridiculous... yes, it's hard to find, but you can probably commission a 24"×36" unique oil painting of that cover by the original artist for $12,500. I'm sure hundreds of people spent a lot more than $12,500 on Enron stock before it imploded... and they all got what they paid for. Same opportunity here.GGSAE wrote:Ya and the cheap prick doesn't even offer free shipping, as if his deluded belief justifies this comic has value anywhere near what he's asking. Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Comics Of Any Era
I agree. It's a ridiculous price. It got me to check modern sales of CGC 9.8 books by highest price though. I took off SS books as an option. There's an Iron Man 512 Venom variant in CGC 9.8 that sold for $2,000. I'll post a link to it in a bit.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Comics Of Any Era
There are several, actually. Spider-man #667 is the worst offender, but there are a dozen recent books over $1,000... generally 1:50 variants from non-#1 titles that no one really needed 50 copies. The biggest danger with these besides the price of entry, is that dozens or hundreds may be in a box somewhere because they were printed but not earned. It's unlikely that Marvel is only printing a couple hundred of anything.StarBrand wrote:I agree. It's a ridiculous price. It got me to check modern sales of CGC 9.8 books by highest price though. The same message board cheerleaders generally pump these books nonstop, and the buying and selling is getting headlines for the activity of just a few people. Most of these were originally $50 or less, so they could literally lose 95% of their value and the hype-men would still profit.
Again, it's much ado about nothing... rare, sure, but there are thousands of books just as rare under $100. It's all hype... so, so dangerous.
It reminds me of the gold refractor baseball cards that were selling for $10,000 for retired players (Nolan Ryan) about 20 years ago. What exactly was the point, when the vintage rookie cards were cheaper?
Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Comics Of Any Era
I agree. It's dangerous "investing". Better to sift through the books that are just as rare and don't have the hype but might have long term potential.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Comics Of Any Era
Certainly much can be learned by studying the sports card market. Several years before CGC was launched I told a comic shop owner professionally graded comics were coming. It was an easy call, as at that time PSA was having huge success grading and encapsulating sports cards.

Mycomicshop is asking over $300 for an Avenging Spider-Man 9 in CGC 9.8. There are no raw copies of this book available on eBay.

The Transformers: Generation 2 Halloween Preview Special. This is probably the hardest TF comic to find. It wasn't reprinted in the Titan TPBs and HC and to my knowledge never been reprinted by IDW either. It's kind of hard to know how rare it is because it was a free comic (in the vein of Unity #0) also because it was printed more like Comic Shop News is than a standard comic. I have a copy of it and I honestly don't know it's value because it can go anywhere $10-$100 and it doesn't pop up all that much.

I NEVER do this, but I put my last copy aside. I've probably sold 15 of these the last 12-15 months.
There is also a 2nd print sketch.

I think the ms marvel 2 molina variant is scary before it was on CBCS?website I was trying to find one for 200. And passed up a9.6 for 400. As soon as the website posted it as rare the 9.6 jumped to 1100 and it sold within 2 days I think. Same with the venom variants as soon as they were posted as super rare they have went through the roof iron man 512 is just crazy and needless to say I'll never finish that set

Milk & Cheese Special Edition. Evan Dorkin called it the "Stupid Edition". It was a mail in type of comic later included in the HC collection. Good luck finding one. They're a ghost. If you have one I'll buy it off you.

Assume that's a typo for CBSI, which is like the new Wizard Top 10 (which on a quick check - Hawkeye 2 is a huge surprise to me).StarBrand wrote:Which website was it mentioned on before it shot up in price and sold?corey wrote:I think the ms marvel 2 molina variant is scary before it was on CBCS?website I was trying to find one for 200.
