I picked up most of Laphams early stuff when he was selling art directly, here is a cool page.

I don't remember, I'd have to check my records to see the seller. Greg and I were both bidding on it and a Magnus 0 splash and he ended up with the Magnus page, I got Jack. I was going back through some pages last night. The bws page hasn't ever seen the light of day, the color artwork I picked up ...

By the way, this is what the purpose of this sub-forum is supposed to be, discussing Valiant art. Thank god we have a few decent discussions going again.

facepalm I responded that it was a dumb price to pay in my opinion on that piece. I don't think I have attacked this auction. Do I think BWS art in general should be going for $2K a page on random pages. Probably not. But if it does, Great.

The X-O 1 BWS Layout issue has been there for a long time ...

That's because he just did the layouts. Layton and Holdredge were credited with the art that saw publication. Even Joey listed Barry's contribution as "layouts" when he sold his page ...

I repeat, that is a stupid price for that piece. Dont take that the wrong way Anthony. Approaching 2 decades of collecting , mostly Valiant art, I reserve the right to say that.

Good luck. I know where most of the early splashes are. And a good size percentage of the pre-unity art.

I'll pass. I haven't touched it other than to put it in an art album. Its not a photo stat or patch, its a section of original art, penciled and inked, and attached to the bottom 1/4 of the page. I don't much feel like risking one of the most important pages of Valiant art in existence to see whats ...

The 1st appearance Shadowman/Jack panel is all original art. It would be interesting to find out the situation behind it as well, how it came about, and who did what on the page.

Yes, around that time, maybe a little before, he sold the majority of them. Prior to that only a few had leaked out. Most were sold in private transactions through Renee, his art broker. Magnus, it certainly looks like your Magnus 0, page 18 was the steal of the auction, just in comparison to the other prices paid.

Anyone come up with a complete tally list of art and prices paid for each? Reminds me of the Harbinger 1 art auction as to the level of bidding and pre-snipe action. Really seemed to breath some life into the market. Although I miss the days of $9.99 pages.

Maybe this will loosen some more art up ...
